How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will determine your dose based on your weight and condition. Generally 2–15 mg per kg body weight daily, divided into two doses.

Method

Take the capsules whole with water, always as two divided doses at the same time each day.

Important

Do not exceed the dose prescribed by your doctor. For patients with nephrotic syndrome and kidney problems, the initial daily dose should not exceed 2.5 mg per kg body weight.

RARE
  • Brain problems, such as sudden seizures, confusion, sleeplessness, vision problems, unconsciousness, or weakness in limbs.
  • Rash
  • Generalized swelling
  • Weight gain
  • Low red blood cell or platelet count, which may increase bleeding risk.
  • Nerve problems, such as numbness or tingling in fingers and toes.
  • Pancreatitis, with severe upper abdominal pain.
  • Muscle weakness, muscle pain, and reduced muscle strength.
  • Red blood cell breakdown with kidney problems, swelling, reduced urination, difficulty breathing, chest pain, seizures, or unconsciousness.
  • Menstrual cycle changes, breast enlargement in men.
  • Swelling behind the eye, which may cause increased pressure in the head and vision problems.
  • Severe liver problems with yellow skin or eyes, nausea, loss of appetite, dark urine, and general swelling.
  • Bleeding under the skin or purple spots, sudden bleeding without a clear cause.
  • Migraine or severe headache, often with nausea, vomiting, and light sensitivity.
  • Pain in shins and legs.
  • Hearing loss.

Important Warnings

  • Tell your doctor if you have signs of infection like fever or sore throat, as this medicine weakens your immune system.
  • Inform your doctor if you have kidney or liver problems; your dose may need adjustment.
  • Tell your doctor if your blood pressure increases; it will be monitored regularly.
  • Your doctor will monitor your blood magnesium and potassium levels, as they may change.
  • Avoid too much sunlight and UV light, use protective clothing and sunscreen, as this medicine increases cancer risk.

  • Do not drink grapefruit juice or eat grapefruit, as they can affect how the medicine works.
  • Discuss with your doctor if you have alcohol-related problems or if the medicine is given to an infant under 4 weeks old.
  • Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, as Sandimmun Neoral is generally not recommended in these situations.
