How to Use

Dosage

For acute phases: 1 to 2 sachets (1500 mg each) once daily, preferably in the morning. For preventing relapse (high risk): 2 sachets (1500 mg each) once daily, preferably in the morning.

Method

Place the granules on your tongue and swallow them whole, without chewing, with plenty of liquid.

Important

The maximum daily dose for adults is 2 sachets (3000 mg mesalazine) for acute phases or high-risk relapse prevention.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Headache
  • Rash, itching
RARE
  • Abdominal pain, diarrhea, indigestion, gas, nausea, vomiting
  • Severe stomach pain due to inflamed pancreas
  • Changes in liver values or pancreatic enzymes
  • Dizziness
  • Yellow skin or stomach pain due to liver disease or poor bile flow
  • Increased skin sensitivity to sun (photosensitivity)
  • Joint pain
  • Feeling weak or tired
  • Numbness and tingling in hands and feet (peripheral neuropathy)
  • Shortness of breath, cough, wheezing, or lung changes on X-ray due to allergic or inflammatory lung conditions
  • Hair loss and baldness
  • Muscle pain
  • Reversible decrease in sperm production

Important Warnings

  • If you have lung problems, especially asthma.
  • If you have been very sensitive to medicines containing sulfasalazine (a substance similar to mesalazine).
  • If you have liver or kidney problems.
  • If you have had severe skin rashes, peeling skin, blisters, or mouth sores after using mesalazine.
  • Drink enough fluids to help prevent kidney stones, which can cause side pain and blood in your urine.

  • Stop taking this medicine and see a doctor right away if you get severe skin rashes such as DRESS, SJS, or TEN (red, flat, target-like spots, blisters, peeling skin, sores in mouth/nose/eyes/genitals, fever, swollen lymph nodes).

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Consider renal impairment. Do not use in severe renal impairment. Remember blood tests to monitor safety. (updated 20.5.2024)
