How to Use

Dosage

Take one inhalation twice daily, or as directed by your doctor.

Method

Inhale the powder through your mouth into your lungs using the inhaler device.

Important

Do not exceed the dose prescribed by your doctor.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Headache, usually gets better with continued treatment.
  • More common colds (reported in COPD patients).
  • Thrush (sore, creamy-yellow patches) in your mouth and throat. Rinse your mouth after use to reduce this risk.
  • Irritation of the tongue and throat, hoarseness.
  • Aching, swollen joints and muscle pain, muscle cramps.
  • Bruises and bone fractures (reported in COPD patients).
  • Sinus infection (feeling of pressure or stuffiness in the nose, cheeks, or behind the eyes), reported in COPD patients.
  • Low blood potassium levels (can cause irregular heartbeats, muscle weakness, or cramps), reported in COPD patients.
RARE
  • Increased blood sugar levels. If you have diabetes, you might need more frequent blood sugar checks or changes to your diabetes medicine.
  • Cataracts (cloudy lens in the eye).
  • Very fast heartbeat (tachycardia), trembling, or fast/irregular heartbeats (palpitations). These are usually harmless and go away with continued treatment.
  • Chest pain.
  • Restlessness (mainly in children), sleep disturbances.
  • Allergic skin rash.
  • Slowed growth in children and teenagers (with high doses or long-term use).
  • Brittle bones (with high doses or long-term use).
  • Glaucoma (a serious eye condition, with high doses or long-term use).
  • Weight gain or a rounded face (Cushing's syndrome, with high doses or long-term use).
  • Behavioral changes like unusual activity, irritability, depression, or aggression (more likely in children).
  • Irregular heartbeats or extra beats (arrhythmia).
  • Fungal infection in the esophagus, which may cause difficulty swallowing.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use Salmex if you are allergic to salmeterol, fluticasone propionate, or any other ingredient like lactose.
  • Tell your doctor if you have heart problems, an overactive thyroid, high blood pressure, diabetes, low potassium, or a lung infection (like tuberculosis).
  • Contact your doctor if you experience blurred vision or other vision problems.
  • Do not stop using Salmex or reduce your dose without talking to your doctor first, as your symptoms might get worse.
  • Seek immediate medical help and stop using Salmex if you suddenly find it hard to breathe, start wheezing, get a rash, swelling (especially on your face/throat), or have a very fast heartbeat right after using it.

  • If you have COPD and experience fever, chills, more mucus (with color change), worsening cough, or increased breathing difficulties, tell your doctor as these could be signs of pneumonia.
