How to Use
Dosage
One inhalation, twice a day (morning and evening), for all strengths (50/100 and 50/250 microgram).
Method
Inhale the powder into your lungs through your mouth. Rinse your mouth with water and spit it out (or brush your teeth) after each use to prevent fungal infections.
Important
Do not exceed the prescribed dose, typically two inhalations per day.
Possible Side Effects
COMMON
- •Headache (often gets better with continued use)
- •Fungal infection in the mouth or throat (thrush), sore tongue, hoarseness, throat irritation. Rinse mouth after use to help prevent these.
- •Aching, swollen joints and muscle pain, muscle cramps.
RARE
- •Severe allergic reactions including swelling of the face/lips/tongue, difficulty breathing, or sudden collapse. (Contact doctor immediately)
- •Very fast, irregular, or uneven heartbeat, chest pain, shaking.
- •Blurred vision, cataracts (clouding of the eye lens), glaucoma (eye pressure changes).
- •Increased blood sugar levels (important for people with diabetes to monitor), weight gain.
- •Restlessness, sleep problems, hyperactivity, irritability, depression, aggression (especially in children).
- •Slowed growth in children and adolescents, thinning bones, rounder face (Cushing's syndrome symptoms), fungal infection in the esophagus (difficulty swallowing).
Important Warnings
- Do not use if you are allergic to salmeterol, fluticasone propionate, or lactose (milk sugar).
- If your breathing suddenly gets worse, or you have wheezing, rash, or swelling (e.g., face, lips), stop using the medicine and contact your doctor right away.
- Do not suddenly stop taking this medicine or change your dose without talking to your doctor. Stopping suddenly can make your breathing problems worse.
- This medicine is not for children under 12 years old.
- Tell your doctor if you have heart problems (like fast or uneven heartbeat), an overactive thyroid, high blood pressure, diabetes, low potassium levels, tuberculosis, or other lung infections.
