How to Use

Dosage

Typically, one inhalation twice a day. Your doctor will tell you which dose (50/250 or 50/500 micrograms) is right for you.

Method

Inhale the powder through your mouth into your lungs. Always rinse your mouth with water and spit it out after each dose to prevent side effects.

Important

Do not take more than two inhalations per day, unless your doctor tells you otherwise.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Headache (often goes away with continued use).
  • More common colds (upper respiratory infections) in people with COPD.
  • White or yellowish patches (thrush) in the mouth and throat, sore tongue, hoarseness, or throat irritation.
  • Aching, swollen joints, and muscle pain.
  • Muscle cramps.
  • Bruising and bone fractures (seen in people with COPD).
  • Sinus infections (feeling of pressure or stuffiness in the nose, cheeks, or behind the eyes, sometimes with a headache) in people with COPD.
  • Low blood potassium levels (which can cause irregular heartbeats, muscle weakness, or cramps) in people with COPD.
RARE
  • High blood sugar (hyperglycemia).
  • Cataracts (clouding of the eye's lens).
  • Very fast heartbeat (tachycardia).
  • Shaking (tremors) and fast or irregular heartbeats (palpitations) – these are usually harmless and go away with continued treatment.
  • Chest pain.
  • Restlessness (mainly in children).
  • Sleep problems.
  • Allergic skin rash.
  • Sudden worsening of breathing difficulties or wheezing right after using Salflumix Easyhaler, possibly with coughing, shortness of breath, itching, rash, swelling of the face/lips/tongue/throat, a very fast heartbeat, or feeling faint/dizzy. Stop using the medicine and tell your doctor immediately.
  • Slowed growth in children and teenagers.
  • Thinning of bones.
  • Glaucoma (a condition causing increased pressure in the eye).
  • Weight gain.
  • Rounding of the face (moon face), also known as Cushing's syndrome.
  • Changes in behavior, like being unusually active or irritable (mainly in children).
  • Irregular heartbeats or extra beats (arrhythmias).
  • Fungal infection in the tube connecting your mouth to your stomach (esophagus), which can make swallowing difficult.
  • Feeling depressed or aggressive (more common in children).
  • Blurred vision.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to salmeterol, fluticasone, or lactose (which contains milk proteins).
  • Never stop taking this medicine or reduce your dose suddenly without talking to your doctor, as this can worsen your breathing.
  • This medicine is not for sudden breathing attacks; always use your fast-acting rescue inhaler for those.
  • Tell your doctor if you have heart problems, an overactive thyroid, high blood pressure, diabetes, low potassium, or any lung infections (like TB).
  • If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to have a baby, talk to your doctor before using this medicine.
