How to Use

Dosage

Start with one 50 mg tablet once a day; your doctor may increase it to 100 mg.

Method

Take the tablet whole with water, preferably in the morning, with or without food.

Important

If you have moderate liver problems, do not take more than 50 mg per day; your doctor will tell you if this applies to you.

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to safinamide or any of its other ingredients.
  • Do not take with MAO inhibitors (medicines for Parkinson's, depression) or pethidine (a strong painkiller); you must wait at least 7 days after stopping Safinamide Vivanta before starting these.
  • Do not take if you have severe liver problems.
  • Do not take if you have an eye disease that could harm your retina, such as albinism, retinal damage, uveitis, hereditary eye disease, or severe diabetic eye disease.
  • Watch out for new or increased compulsive behaviors like gambling, increased sexual urges, overspending, or sudden anger, which can happen with Parkinson's medicines.

  • Uncontrolled jerky movements might start or get worse if you take this medicine with levodopa.
  • Do not use if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or not using effective birth control; also avoid if breastfeeding as the medicine may pass into breast milk.
