How to Use

Dosage

The usual starting dose is one tablet (24 mg/26 mg or 49 mg/51 mg) twice a day (morning and evening). The usual target dose is one tablet (97 mg/103 mg) twice a day (morning and evening).

Method

Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water. You can take it with or without food. Do not split or crush the tablets.

Important

The maximum recommended daily dose is one 97 mg/103 mg tablet twice a day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Low blood pressure, which can cause dizziness and lightheadedness
  • High potassium levels in the blood, seen in blood tests
  • Worsened kidney function
  • Cough
  • Dizziness
  • Diarrhea
  • Reduced red blood cell count, seen in blood tests (anemia)
  • Fatigue
  • Sudden inability of kidneys to function properly (acute kidney failure)
  • Low potassium levels in the blood, seen in blood tests (hypokalemia)
  • Headache
  • Fainting
  • Weakness
  • Nausea
  • Low blood pressure when standing up from sitting or lying down (dizziness, lightheadedness)
  • Stomach inflammation (stomach pain, nausea)
  • Spinning sensation (vertigo)
  • Low blood sugar, seen in blood tests (hypoglycemia)
RARE
  • Allergic reaction with rash and itching (hypersensitivity)
  • Dizziness when standing up from sitting (postural dizziness)
  • Low sodium levels in the blood, seen in blood tests (hyponatremia)
  • Seeing, hearing, or feeling things that are not there (hallucinations)
  • Changes in sleep patterns (sleep disorder)
  • Paranoia
  • Intestinal angioedema: swelling in the intestines with symptoms like stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea
  • Sudden involuntary muscle twitching

Important Warnings

  • Stop taking this medicine and get medical help right away if you notice swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat, which may cause difficulty breathing or swallowing. These can be signs of angioedema.
  • Do not take this medicine if you are taking or have recently taken an ACE inhibitor (like enalapril, lisinopril, or ramipril). Wait 36 hours after your last ACE inhibitor dose before starting this medicine.
  • Do not take if you have diabetes or kidney problems and are also taking a medicine containing aliskiren.
  • Do not take if you have severe liver disease.
  • Do not take if you are more than 3 months pregnant, as it can seriously harm your baby.
