How to Use

Dosage

The typical starting dose for adults is 1 g (2 sachets) daily. For children, it's usually 40-50 mg per kg of body weight daily. Your doctor will set your specific dose.

Method

Mix the granules from the sachets with half a glass of water, juice, or milk, and drink immediately after they dissolve. You can take it with or without food, once or twice a day.

Important

The maximum recommended daily dose for adults is 3 g.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Vision changes, including narrowed field of vision.
  • Feeling tired or very sleepy.
  • Joint pain.
  • Headache.
  • Weight gain.
  • Tremors (shaking).
  • Swelling.
  • Dizziness.
  • Numbness or tingling sensation.
  • Problems with concentration or memory.
  • Mood changes like agitation, irritability, nervousness, depression, sleep problems, or confusion.
  • Nausea, vomiting, or stomach pain.
  • Blurred or double vision, rapid eye movements.
  • Speech problems.
  • Anemia (low red blood cell count).
  • Unusual hair loss or thinning.
  • Restlessness or agitation (especially in children).
RARE
  • Lack of coordination or clumsiness.
  • More severe mental health problems, such as mania or psychosis.
  • Rash.
  • Severe allergic reaction with swelling of the face or throat.
  • Hives (itchy rash).
  • Feeling very drowsy, confused, or less alert.
  • Suicidal attempts.
  • Other eye problems, such as retinal disorders.
  • Other eye problems, such as optic nerve damage or inflammation.
  • Seeing or hearing things that are not there (hallucinations).
  • Liver problems.
  • Reduced sharpness of vision.
  • Abnormal findings on brain MRI scans.
  • Swelling in parts of the brain (seen on MRI).
  • Movement disorders in infants with infantile spasms.

Important Warnings

  • Do not take Sabrilex if you are allergic to vigabatrin or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Sabrilex can cause changes in your vision, including a narrowing of your field of vision, which can be permanent. Get your eyes checked regularly and tell your doctor immediately if you notice any changes in your sight.
  • A small number of people taking Sabrilex have had thoughts of harming themselves or suicide. If you have these thoughts, contact your doctor immediately.
  • Do not use Sabrilex if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding unless specifically advised by your doctor, as it may harm your baby. Do not breastfeed during treatment.
  • This medicine can make you sleepy, dizzy, or confused. Do not drive or operate machinery until you know how it affects you. If these symptoms occur, contact your doctor.
