How to Use

Dosage

For adults and children weighing 40 kg or more: 150 mg: Take one tablet in the morning and one in the evening. For pneumonia, you can take two 150 mg tablets once daily or one 300 mg tablet once daily.

Method

Take the tablet with a glass of water at least 15 minutes before a meal.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 300 mg (two 150 mg tablets or one 300 mg tablet).

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Headache, dizziness
  • Nausea, vomiting, retching, diarrhea, indigestion, stomach pain
  • Redness, swelling, and itching of the skin
RARE
  • Increased white blood cells (eosinophilia)
  • Hives
  • Allergic reactions
  • Small red spots or patches on the skin (erythema multiforme)
  • Follow-up infection with Candida yeast, e.g., in the mouth and vaginal mucous membranes
  • Shortness of breath
  • Bronchospasm (tightening of airways)
  • Decrease in white blood cells (neutropenia, agranulocytosis)
  • Decrease in platelets (thrombocytopenia)
  • Fast or irregular heartbeat
  • Changes in the heart's electrical activity ('QT prolongation')
  • Purple spots on the skin resembling bruises (purpura)
  • Liver inflammation with bile stagnation and yellowing of the skin or whites of the eyes (jaundice)
  • Pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas)
  • Bloody diarrhea
  • Hallucinations, confusion
  • Decreased or lost sense of smell and/or taste
  • Tingling sensations (paresthesia)
  • Temporary hearing loss, hearing impairment, spinning sensation (vertigo), ringing or buzzing in the ears
  • Superinfections after long-term use (new infection during or after treatment of an earlier infection)
  • Visual disturbances, blurred vision
  • Temporary increase in liver enzymes

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to roxithromycin, other macrolide antibiotics, or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Do not take this medicine with ergotamine or dihydroergotamine (for migraines), cisapride (for stomach issues), pimozide (for psychosis), astemizole or terfenadine (for allergies).
  • Tell your doctor if you have liver disease; your doctor may adjust your dose.
  • Inform your doctor if you have a heart condition, such as coronary artery disease, heart failure, very slow or irregular heartbeat, or a family history of 'QT prolongation' (an electrical heart problem).
  • Tell your doctor if you have low blood potassium or magnesium levels.

  • Inform your doctor if you have myasthenia gravis, a condition causing muscle weakness.
  • Stop taking this medicine and contact your doctor immediately if you develop severe, persistent, or bloody diarrhea, as it could be a sign of a serious gut infection.
  • Seek immediate medical attention if you experience widespread severe rash, blistering or peeling skin, eye pain, mouth or genital sores, or a red, scaly rash with bumps and blisters under the skin, especially if accompanied by flu-like symptoms. These could be life-threatening reactions.
  • Stop taking this medicine and seek immediate medical attention if you experience severe allergic reactions such as sudden difficulty breathing or swallowing, swelling of the face, lips, mouth, tongue, and/or throat, severe dizziness, or collapsing.
