How to Use

Dosage

For adults and children weighing 40 kg or more: take one 150 mg tablet in the morning and one in the evening. For pneumonia, take two 150 mg tablets once daily or one 300 mg tablet once daily.

Method

Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water at least 15 minutes before a meal.

The maximum daily dose is two 150 mg tablets (300 mg total) or one 300 mg tablet.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Headache, dizziness
  • Nausea, vomiting, retching, diarrhea, indigestion, stomach pain
  • Redness, swelling, and itching of the skin
RARE
  • Increased numbers of certain white blood cells (eosinophilia)
  • Hives (urticaria)
  • Allergic reactions
  • Small red spots or patches on the skin (erythema multiforme)
  • Secondary infection, such as oral or vaginal candidiasis (yeast infection)
  • Shortness of breath
  • Bronchospasm (tightening of airways)
  • Decreased numbers of certain white blood cells (neutropenia)
  • Severely low white blood cell count, increasing infection risk (agranulocytosis)
  • Low platelet count (thrombocytopenia)
  • Changes in the heart's electrical activity, known as 'QT prolongation'
  • Rapid or irregular heartbeat
  • Purple patches on the skin, resembling bruises (purpura)
  • Liver inflammation with bile duct blockage, yellowing of skin or eyes (jaundice) due to liver or blood problems
  • Pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas)
  • Bloody diarrhea
  • Hallucinations, confusion
  • Reduced or lost sense of smell and/or taste, tingling (paresthesia)
  • Temporary hearing loss, hearing impairment, spinning sensation (vertigo), ringing or buzzing in the ears
  • Superinfections due to long-term use (new infection during or after treatment for an earlier infection)
  • Vision problems, blurred vision
  • Temporary increase in liver enzymes (e.g., ALAT, ASAT, GGT, alkaline phosphatase, bilirubin)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to roxithromycin, other macrolide antibiotics, or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not take if you are currently using medicines for migraine (like ergotamine), stomach/bowel issues (cisapride), psychosis (pimozide), or allergies (astemizole, terfenadine).
  • Stop taking this medicine and contact a doctor immediately if you develop severe, persistent, or bloody diarrhea. This could be a sign of serious gut inflammation.
  • Seek immediate medical attention if you get a severe skin rash with blisters, peeling skin, or flu-like symptoms, as these can be life-threatening.
  • Stop taking this medicine and get urgent medical help if you have a severe allergic reaction, which may include swelling of the face, tongue, or throat, and difficulty breathing.

  • Tell your doctor if you have liver disease, as your dose may need to be adjusted or this medicine may not be suitable for you.
  • Inform your doctor if you have a heart condition, such as coronary artery disease, heart failure, a very slow or irregular heartbeat, or a family history of an electrical heart problem called 'QT prolongation.'
