How to Use

Dosage

The starting dose is usually one 2 mg/24 h patch daily for early Parkinson's disease or one 4 mg/24 h patch daily for advanced disease; the dose is increased weekly until the right dose is found.

Method

Apply one patch to a clean, dry, healthy skin area each day. Always remove the old patch before applying a new one. Change the patch at about the same time daily, and do not cut it.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 8 mg for early Parkinson's disease and 16 mg for advanced Parkinson's disease.

  • Strong urges to do harmful things like excessive gambling, repetitive actions, uncontrolled shopping or spending
  • Binge eating or compulsive eating

  • Blurred vision
  • Weight gain
  • Allergic reactions (e.g., rash)
  • Increased heart rate
  • Increased sex drive
  • Abnormal heart rhythm
  • Stomach discomfort and pain
  • Generalized itching or skin irritation
  • Suddenly falling asleep without warning
  • Difficulty getting or keeping an erection
  • Feeling restless, confused, disoriented, or paranoid
  • High or abnormal liver function test results
  • Vision problems, like seeing colors or light flashes
  • Increased levels of a muscle enzyme (CPK)
  • Delusions (false beliefs)
  • Acute confusion (delirium)

  • Needing much higher doses than needed for your disease (Dopaminergic Dysregulation Syndrome)

  • Severe muscle pain and weakness (rhabdomyolysis), which can lead to kidney problems

Important Warnings

  • Your blood pressure needs regular checks, especially at the start of treatment, as this medicine can affect it.
  • Your eyes should be checked regularly. Tell your doctor right away if you notice any vision problems between checks.
  • If you have serious liver problems, your doctor might change your dose. Contact your doctor immediately if your liver problems get worse during treatment.
  • You might get skin problems where the patch is applied, such as redness or itching. If skin reactions last more than a few days, are severe, or spread, tell your doctor.
  • You may feel very sleepy or suddenly fall asleep. Do not drive or operate machinery if this happens, as it can cause serious harm.
