How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will determine your dose, usually starting with one 2 mg or 4 mg patch per day, which may be increased weekly until the right dose is found.

Method

Apply one patch to clean, dry, and healthy skin once a day on a different area, such as your shoulder, abdomen, or thigh. Always remove the old patch before applying a new one, and leave it on for 24 hours.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 16 mg.

Possible Side Effects

  • headache
  • drowsiness or dizziness

  • skin irritation under the patch, such as redness or itching

  • swelling of legs and feet
  • feeling weak, tired

  • vertigo (spinning sensation)
  • seeing or hearing unreal things (hallucinations)
  • low blood pressure when standing up, high blood pressure
  • difficulty falling asleep, sleep disturbance, difficulty sleeping, nightmares, unusual dreams
  • involuntary movements related to Parkinson's disease (dyskinesia)
  • fainting, feeling dizzy when standing up due to low blood pressure
  • inability to resist harmful impulsive behaviors like excessive gambling, repetitive pointless actions, uncontrolled excessive shopping or spending
  • binge eating (eating large amounts of food in a short time) or compulsive eating (eating more than normal and more than needed to satisfy hunger)
RARE
  • blurred vision
  • weight gain
  • allergic reactions
  • low blood pressure
  • increased heart rate
  • increased sexual desire
  • abnormal heart rhythm
  • stomach upset and stomach pain
  • generalized itching, skin irritation
  • suddenly falling asleep without warning
  • inability to get or maintain an erection
  • feeling restless, disoriented, confused or paranoid
  • elevated or abnormal liver function test values
  • vision disturbances such as seeing colors or light phenomena
  • elevated levels of creatine phosphokinase (CPK)
  • delusions
  • delirium (severe confusion)
  • feeling irritable
  • being aggressive
  • psychotic disorders
  • generalized rash
  • involuntary muscle spasms (seizures)

Important Warnings

  • Remove the patch before an MRI or electrical cardioversion (treatment for abnormal heart rhythm) because the patch contains metal.
  • Your blood pressure should be checked regularly, especially at the start of treatment, as the medicine can affect it.
  • Your eyes should be examined regularly. If you notice any vision problems, contact your doctor immediately.
  • If you have severe liver problems or they worsen, your doctor may need to adjust your dose. Contact your doctor immediately.
  • The patch may cause skin problems. Follow the patch application instructions to avoid skin irritation.

  • This medicine can make you very sleepy or cause you to fall asleep suddenly. Avoid driving or operating machinery if this happens.
  • You may experience involuntary muscle contractions or unusual postures (dystonia). If this happens, your doctor might adjust your medication.
  • This medicine can cause loss of consciousness or dizziness, especially when starting treatment or increasing the dose. Tell your doctor if you faint or feel dizzy.
  • This medicine can cause behavioral changes like compulsive gambling, increased sexual desire, excessive spending, binge eating, delusions, or confusion. Discuss this with your doctor or ask family members to monitor for changes.
  • Contact your doctor immediately if you experience signs of an allergic reaction, such as swelling of the face, tongue, or lips.
