How to Use

Dosage

Adults usually start with 5 mg or 10 mg once a day. Your doctor may slowly increase your dose. Children and teenagers (6-17 years old) usually start with 5 mg once a day, and the dose can go up to 10 mg or 20 mg.

Method

Swallow the tablet whole with water. You can take it any time of day, with or without food. Try to take it at the same time each day to help you remember.

Important

For adults, the most you should take in one day is 40 mg. For children and teenagers (6-17 years old), the most is 10 mg or 20 mg, and the 40 mg tablet is not for them.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Headache
  • Stomach pain
  • Constipation
  • Nausea
  • Muscle pain
  • Weakness
  • Dizziness
  • Increased protein in urine (usually harmless and goes away on its own)
  • Diabetes (more likely if you are already at risk, for example, with high blood sugar, overweight, or high blood pressure)
RARE
  • Rash, itching, or other skin reactions
  • Severe stomach pain (from a swollen pancreas)
  • Increased liver enzymes in blood (shown in blood tests)
  • Yellow skin or eyes (jaundice)
  • Swollen liver (hepatitis)
  • Small amounts of blood in urine
  • Nerve damage in legs and arms (like numbness or tingling)
  • Joint pain
  • Memory loss
  • Breast growth in men (gynecomastia)
  • Diarrhea
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath
  • Swelling (edema)
  • Sleep problems (including trouble sleeping and nightmares)
  • Sexual problems
  • Depression
  • Breathing problems (including a cough that won't go away, shortness of breath, or fever)
  • Tendon injury
  • Persistent muscle weakness
  • General muscle weakness (Myasthenia gravis, sometimes affecting breathing muscles)
  • Eye muscle weakness (Ocular myasthenia)

Important Warnings

  • Stop taking this medicine and get medical help right away if you have a severe allergic reaction (like trouble breathing, swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat, a bad skin rash, or blistering skin with fever).
  • Tell your doctor right away if you get unusual muscle pain or weakness that lasts a long time, especially if you also feel sick or have a fever. Also, tell your doctor if you have ongoing muscle weakness.
  • Do not take this medicine if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding. You must use birth control while taking this medicine.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have liver disease or severe kidney problems.
  • If you need to take fusidic acid (an antibiotic), you must temporarily stop Rosuvastatin Xiromed. Your doctor will tell you when it's safe to restart. Taking these medicines together can cause serious muscle problems.

  • Do not take this medicine if you are taking ciclosporin (a medicine used after organ transplants).
  • Tell your doctor if you regularly drink a lot of alcohol or if your thyroid gland is not working normally.
  • If you are of Asian descent, over 70 years old, or have moderate kidney problems, your doctor may start you on a lower dose.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Reduce the dose in moderately severe renal impairment. Do not use in severe renal impairment. Possible adverse effects include muscle pain and muscular weakness. Concurrent use of aluminium and magnesium reduces the effectiveness of the drug,. Consider potential interactions.
