How to Use

Dosage

Adults usually start with 5 mg or 10 mg once a day; your doctor may adjust your dose. For children (6-17 years), the usual starting dose is 5 mg once a day, which may be increased up to 10 mg or 20 mg.

Method

Swallow the tablet whole with water, once a day, with or without food, preferably at the same time each day.

Important

For adults, the maximum daily dose is 40 mg. For children (6-17 years), the maximum daily dose is 10 mg or 20 mg, depending on their condition; children should not take the 40 mg tablet.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Headache
  • Dizziness
  • Constipation
  • Nausea (feeling sick)
  • Stomach pain
  • Muscle pain
  • Feeling weak
  • Protein in urine
  • Skin rash, itching, or other skin reactions
  • Diabetes (more likely if you have high blood sugar, high blood fats, are overweight, or have high blood pressure)
RARE
  • Severe allergic reactions (swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat; difficulty swallowing or breathing; severe itching)
  • Muscle damage, including severe muscle problems (rhabdomyolysis), which can cause muscle weakness, tenderness, or pain
  • Inflammation of the pancreas (severe stomach pain)
  • Increased liver enzymes in blood, liver inflammation (hepatitis), or jaundice (yellowing of skin or eyes)
  • Low blood platelets (causing unusual bruising or bleeding), or lupus-like syndrome (with rash, joint pain, and effects on blood cells)
  • Nerve damage in legs and arms (e.g., numbness)
  • Joint pain
  • Memory loss
  • Enlargement of male breasts (gynecomastia)
  • Diarrhea
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath
  • Swelling (edema)
  • Sleep disturbances (including insomnia and nightmares)
  • Sexual problems
  • Depression
  • Tendon damage, sometimes leading to a ruptured tendon
  • Persistent muscle weakness
  • Myasthenia gravis (a disease causing general muscle weakness, including breathing muscles) or ocular myasthenia (a disease causing eye muscle weakness)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to rosuvastatin or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not take if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. If you become pregnant, stop immediately and tell your doctor.
  • Do not take if you have liver disease.
  • Do not take if you have severe kidney disease.
  • Stop taking this medicine and contact your doctor immediately if you have unusual muscle pain that lasts longer than expected.

  • Tell your doctor if you are using medicines for HIV or Hepatitis C infections (e.g., sofosbuvir, velpatasvir, voxilaprevir, ritonavir, lopinavir, atazanavir, tipranavir).
  • Tell your doctor if you are using ciclosporin (a medicine used after organ transplants).
  • Stop this medicine and seek immediate medical help if you develop severe skin reactions like rashes, peeling skin, blisters, or mouth sores, especially if accompanied by fever.
  • If you need to take fusidic acid for an infection, you must stop taking this medicine temporarily.
  • Children under 18 years old should not use Rosuvastatin Sandoz 40 mg tablets.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Reduce the dose in moderately severe renal impairment. Do not use in severe renal impairment. Possible adverse effects include muscle pain and muscular weakness. Concurrent use of aluminium and magnesium reduces the effectiveness of the drug,. Consider potential interactions.
