How to Use

Dosage

Adults usually start with 5 mg or 10 mg daily. Children aged 6-17 typically start with 5 mg daily, and the dose can go up to 20 mg daily.

Method

Swallow the tablet whole with water once a day. You can take it with or without food, but try to take it at the same time every day to remember.

Important

The maximum daily dose for adults is 40 mg. For children aged 6-17, the maximum daily dose is 10 mg or 20 mg, depending on the reason for treatment.

Possible Side Effects

  • Headache
  • Dizziness
  • Constipation
  • Feeling sick (nausea)
  • Stomach pain
  • Muscle pain
  • Feeling weak
  • More protein in your urine (this usually goes back to normal on its own for the 40 mg dose, no need to stop medicine)
  • Diabetes (more likely if you have high blood sugar, high blood fats, are overweight, or have high blood pressure)
RARE
  • Skin rash, itching, or other skin reactions
  • More protein in your urine (this usually goes back to normal on its own for 5 mg, 10 mg, and 20 mg doses, no need to stop medicine)
  • Severe allergic reactions (like swelling of the face, tongue, throat, trouble swallowing or breathing, severe itching with raised lumps)
  • Muscle damage (rhabdomyolysis)
  • Severe stomach pain (inflammation of the pancreas)
  • Increased liver enzymes in your blood
  • Unusual bruising or bleeding due to a low number of platelets in your blood
  • Lupus-like syndrome (symptoms like rash, joint pain, effects on blood cells)
  • Yellowing of the skin and eyes (jaundice)
  • Liver inflammation (hepatitis)
  • Small amounts of blood in your urine
  • Nerve damage in legs and arms (e.g., numbness)
  • Joint pain
  • Memory loss
  • Gynecomastia (enlargement of breast tissue in men)
  • Diarrhea
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath
  • Swelling (edema)
  • Sleep problems (including insomnia and nightmares)
  • Sexual problems
  • Depression
  • Breathing problems (including persistent cough, shortness of breath, or fever)
  • Tendon damage (sometimes rupture)
  • Myasthenia gravis or ocular myasthenia (a disease causing general muscle weakness, sometimes in eye muscles or breathing muscles)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to rosuvastatin or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not take if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding. Use effective birth control during treatment.
  • Do not take if you have liver disease or severe kidney problems.
  • Do not take if you have repeated or unexplained muscle aches or pains (myopathy), especially if you also feel unwell or have a fever. Tell your doctor right away if you get ongoing muscle weakness.
  • Do not take if you are taking sofosbuvir, velpatasvir, voxilaprevir (for hepatitis C), or ciclosporin (used after organ transplants).

  • Stop taking and see a doctor right away if you get severe skin reactions like swelling of the face, tongue, or throat, or a serious rash with blisters and peeling skin (e.g., Stevens-Johnson syndrome or DRESS syndrome).
  • Do not use the 40 mg dose if you have moderate kidney problems, thyroid issues, regularly drink a lot of alcohol, take other fibrate medicines, or are of Asian origin. Consult your doctor or pharmacist before starting any dose if these apply to you.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Reduce the dose in moderately severe renal impairment. Do not use in severe renal impairment. Possible adverse effects include muscle pain and muscular weakness. Concurrent use of aluminium and magnesium reduces the effectiveness of the drug,. Consider potential interactions.
