How to Use

Dosage

For adults, the starting dose is usually 5 mg or 10 mg once daily. For children and adolescents (6-17 years), the dose ranges from 5 mg to 20 mg once daily, with a usual starting dose of 5 mg.

Method

Swallow the tablet whole with water once a day. You can take it at any time, with or without food. Try to take it at the same time each day to help you remember.

Important

The maximum daily dose for adults is 40 mg. For children aged 6-17, the maximum daily dose is 10 mg or 20 mg, depending on the condition.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Headache
  • Dizziness
  • Constipation
  • Nausea (feeling sick)
  • Stomach pain
  • Muscle pain
  • Weakness
  • Increased protein in urine (usually returns to normal on its own, mainly for 40 mg dose).
  • Diabetes (more likely if you have high blood sugar/fats, are overweight, or have high blood pressure).
RARE
  • Rash, itching, or other skin reactions.
  • Increased protein in urine (usually returns to normal on its own, mainly for 5, 10, 20 mg doses).
  • Severe allergic reaction (swelling of face, lips, tongue, throat, trouble swallowing/breathing, severe itching).
  • Muscle damage in adults (if you have unusual muscle pain that lasts).
  • Severe stomach pain (inflammation of the pancreas).
  • Increased liver enzyme levels in blood.
  • Unusual bruising or bleeding due to low platelet count.
  • Lupus-like syndrome (rash, joint pain, effects on blood cells).
  • Jaundice (yellowing of skin and eyes).
  • Hepatitis (liver inflammation).
  • Small amounts of blood in urine.
  • Nerve damage in legs and arms (like numbness).
  • Joint pain.
  • Memory loss.
  • Gynecomastia (breast enlargement in men).
  • Diarrhea
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath
  • Swelling (edema)
  • Sleep problems, including insomnia and nightmares.
  • Sexual problems
  • Depression
  • Tendon damage, sometimes rupture.
  • Persistent muscle weakness.
  • Myasthenia gravis (a disease causing general muscle weakness, sometimes affecting breathing muscles) or ocular myasthenia (eye muscle weakness).

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to rosuvastatin or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to become pregnant. If you become pregnant, stop taking the medicine and tell your doctor right away.
  • Tell your doctor if you have liver disease or severe kidney disease.
  • Stop taking this medicine and see a doctor right away if you get unusual muscle pain or weakness, especially with fever or feeling unwell, or if it lasts for a long time.
  • Stop taking this medicine and see a doctor right away if you develop severe skin reactions like rash, peeling skin, blisters in the mouth, throat, nose, or eyes.

  • If you need to take fusidic acid (an antibiotic), you must temporarily stop taking Rosuvastatin Sandoz. Your doctor will tell you when it's safe to restart.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Reduce the dose in moderately severe renal impairment. Do not use in severe renal impairment. Possible adverse effects include muscle pain and muscular weakness. Concurrent use of aluminium and magnesium reduces the effectiveness of the drug,. Consider potential interactions.
