Rosuvastatin ratiopharm is a statin medicine that helps lower high levels of "bad" cholesterol and increase "good" cholesterol in your blood to reduce the risk of heart disease and stroke.

How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will tell you how much to take, usually starting with 5 mg or 10 mg once daily. For children (6-17 years), the dose is usually 5-20 mg daily.

Method

Swallow the tablet whole with water once a day. You can take it at any time, with or without food. Try to take it at the same time each day to help you remember.

Important

The maximum daily dose for adults is 40 mg. For children aged 6-17, the maximum daily dose is 10 mg or 20 mg, depending on their condition. The 40 mg tablet is not suitable for children.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Headache
  • Stomach pain
  • Constipation
  • Nausea
  • Muscle pain
  • Feeling weak
  • Dizziness
  • Diabetes (more likely if you have high blood sugar, high fat levels, are overweight, or have high blood pressure)
  • Increased protein in urine (especially with 40 mg dose, usually gets better on its own)
RARE
  • Severe allergic reaction (e.g., swelling of face/throat, difficulty breathing, severe itchy skin)
  • Muscle damage in adults
  • Severe stomach pain (pancreatitis)
  • Increased liver enzymes in blood
  • More bleeding or bruising than usual (due to low platelets)
  • Lupus-like syndrome (e.g., rash, joint pain, blood cell effects)

Important Warnings

  • If you experience signs of a severe allergic reaction like swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat, trouble breathing, or severe itchy skin with raised bumps, stop taking this medicine and seek medical help right away.
  • If you get severe skin reactions such as widespread rash, blisters, peeling skin, or sores in your mouth, eyes, or genitals (signs of conditions like Stevens-Johnson syndrome or DRESS syndrome), stop taking this medicine and seek medical help right away.
  • If you have unusual muscle pain, tenderness, weakness, or muscle rupture that lasts longer than expected, especially if you also have a fever or feel unwell, stop taking this medicine and tell your doctor immediately.
  • Do not take Rosuvastatin ratiopharm if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breastfeeding. Use reliable birth control during treatment.
  • Do not take Rosuvastatin ratiopharm if you have severe liver disease or a severe kidney problem.

  • Do not take Rosuvastatin ratiopharm if you are taking ciclosporin (a medicine used after organ transplants) or certain medicines to treat Hepatitis C (combinations containing sofosbuvir, velpatasvir, or voxilaprevir).

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Reduce the dose in moderately severe renal impairment. Do not use in severe renal impairment. Possible adverse effects include muscle pain and muscular weakness. Concurrent use of aluminium and magnesium reduces the effectiveness of the drug,. Consider potential interactions.
