How to Use

Dosage

Adults usually start with 5 mg or 10 mg daily; children (6-17 years) start with 5 mg daily, with a range of 5-20 mg daily. Your doctor will determine the right dose for you.

Method

Swallow the tablet whole with water, once daily, preferably at the same time each day.

Important

The maximum daily dose for adults is 40 mg. For children (6-17 years), the maximum is 10 mg or 20 mg daily, depending on the condition. The 40 mg tablet is not for children.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Headache
  • Stomach pain, constipation, or nausea
  • Muscle pain
  • Feeling weak or dizzy
  • Increased protein in urine (usually temporary)
  • Increased risk of diabetes (if you have high blood sugar/fat, are overweight, or have high blood pressure)
RARE
  • Rash, itching, or other skin reactions
  • Severe allergic reaction with swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat, difficulty breathing, or severe itchy rash
  • Severe muscle problems, including muscle damage (rhabdomyolysis) or persistent muscle weakness
  • Severe stomach pain (pancreatitis)
  • Liver problems, including increased liver enzymes, jaundice (yellow skin/eyes), or hepatitis
  • Bleeding or bruising more easily due to low platelet count
  • Lupus-like syndrome (rash, joint pain, blood cell effects)
  • Nerve damage in legs/arms (e.g., numbness)
  • Memory loss
  • Breast enlargement in men (gynecomastia)
  • Diarrhea
  • Cough, shortness of breath, or breathing problems
  • Swelling (edema)
  • Sleep problems (insomnia, nightmares)
  • Sexual problems
  • Depression
  • Tendon injury
  • Symptoms of myasthenia gravis (general muscle weakness) or ocular myasthenia (eye muscle weakness)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to rosuvastatin or any other ingredient in it.
  • Do not use if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding. Stop taking it immediately if you become pregnant and tell your doctor.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have liver or severe kidney disease, or a normally functioning thyroid, as this medicine may not be suitable or may require a different dose.
  • Stop taking this medicine and tell your doctor right away if you have unexplained or repeated muscle pain, especially with fever or feeling unwell, as this could be a sign of a serious muscle problem.
  • Tell your doctor if you are taking medicines for HIV infection, hepatitis C (e.g., sofosbuvir, velpatasvir, voxilaprevir), or ciclosporin (used after organ transplants), as these can interact with Rosuvastatin Orion. Also, if you need to take fusidic acid for a bacterial infection, you might need to temporarily stop Rosuvastatin Orion.

  • Stop taking this medicine and seek immediate medical help if you develop severe skin reactions like widespread rash, skin peeling, blistering, or mouth sores, especially if accompanied by fever.
  • This medicine should not be given to children under 6 years of age. The 40 mg tablet is not suitable for children or adolescents under 18 years.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Reduce the dose in moderately severe renal impairment. Do not use in severe renal impairment. Possible adverse effects include muscle pain and muscular weakness. Concurrent use of aluminium and magnesium reduces the effectiveness of the drug,. Consider potential interactions.
