How to Use

Dosage

Typically, adults start with 5 mg or 10 mg once daily. For children and adolescents (6-17 years), the usual starting dose is 5 mg once daily, with a range of 5-20 mg.

Method

Swallow the tablet whole with water once a day. You can take it at any time, but try to take it at the same time each day to help you remember.

Important

The maximum daily dose for adults is 40 mg. Children and adolescents under 18 should not use the 40 mg tablet.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Headache
  • Stomach ache
  • Constipation
  • Nausea
  • Muscle pain
  • Weakness
  • Dizziness
  • Increased protein in urine (this usually returns to normal on its own; for 40 mg dose, it's common; for 5, 10, and 20 mg doses, it's less common).
  • Diabetes (more likely if you have high blood sugar, high fats, are overweight, or have high blood pressure).
RARE
  • Rash, itching, or other skin reactions.
  • Severe stomach pain (pancreatitis).
  • Increased liver enzymes in blood (shown in blood tests).
  • Bleeding or bruising more easily than usual (due to low platelet count).
  • Yellowing of skin or eyes (jaundice).
  • Liver inflammation (hepatitis).
  • Small amounts of blood in urine.
  • Nerve damage in arms and legs (e.g., numbness).
  • Joint pain.
  • Memory loss.
  • Breast enlargement in men (gynecomastia).
  • Diarrhea.
  • Cough.
  • Shortness of breath.
  • Swelling (edema).
  • Sleep problems (including insomnia and nightmares).
  • Sexual problems.
  • Depression.
  • Tendon injury.
  • Persistent muscle weakness.
  • A condition called myasthenia gravis, causing overall muscle weakness, sometimes even in breathing muscles.
  • A condition called ocular myasthenia, causing weakness in eye muscles.

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you have ever had an allergic reaction to rosuvastatin or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not take if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to become pregnant. If you become pregnant during treatment, stop immediately and tell your doctor. Women must use effective contraception during treatment.
  • Do not take if you have liver disease.
  • Do not take if you have severe kidney disease.
  • Do not take if you have repeated or unexplained muscle aches or pains.

  • Do not take if you are using a combination of sofosbuvir, velpatasvir, and voxilaprevir (used to treat Hepatitis C).
  • Do not take if you are taking ciclosporin (used after organ transplants).
  • Do not take 40 mg Rosuvastatin Krka if you have moderate kidney disease.
  • Do not take 40 mg Rosuvastatin Krka if your thyroid gland is not working properly.
  • Do not take 40 mg Rosuvastatin Krka if you have a history of repeated or unexplained muscle aches, or if you or your family have had muscle problems, or if you had muscle problems with other cholesterol-lowering medicines.
  • Do not take 40 mg Rosuvastatin Krka if you regularly drink large amounts of alcohol.
  • Do not take 40 mg Rosuvastatin Krka if you are of Asian origin (Japanese, Chinese, Filipino, Vietnamese, Korean, or Indian).
  • Do not take 40 mg Rosuvastatin Krka if you are taking other cholesterol-lowering medicines called fibrates.
  • Stop using Rosuvastatin Krka and seek immediate medical attention if you get severe skin reactions like Stevens-Johnson syndrome (rash with blistering and peeling skin) or DRESS syndrome (widespread rash, fever, and swollen lymph nodes).
  • Stop using Rosuvastatin Krka and contact your doctor immediately if you experience unusual muscle aches or pains that last longer than expected, as this could indicate a serious muscle condition.
  • Stop using Rosuvastatin Krka and contact your doctor immediately if you experience a muscle tear.
  • Stop using Rosuvastatin Krka and contact your doctor immediately if you develop a lupus-like syndrome (symptoms include rash, joint problems, and blood cell abnormalities).

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Reduce the dose in moderately severe renal impairment. Do not use in severe renal impairment. Possible adverse effects include muscle pain and muscular weakness. Concurrent use of aluminium and magnesium reduces the effectiveness of the drug,. Consider potential interactions.
