How to Use

Dosage

The usual starting dose is 5 mg or 10 mg, but your doctor will decide the best dose for you based on your cholesterol levels and health risks.

Method

Swallow the tablet whole with water once a day, at any time, with or without food. Try to take it at the same time each day to help you remember.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 40 mg. Your doctor may increase your dose gradually, but never take more than 40 mg in a day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Headache
  • Stomach ache
  • Constipation
  • Nausea
  • Muscle pain
  • Feeling weak
  • Dizziness
  • More protein in your urine (this usually goes away on its own, mainly with the 40 mg dose)
  • Diabetes (more likely if you have high blood sugar, high fat levels, are overweight, or have high blood pressure)
RARE
  • Skin rash, itching, or other skin reactions
  • More protein in your urine (this usually goes away on its own, mainly with 5, 10, or 20 mg doses)
  • Severe allergic reaction with swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat, leading to difficulty breathing or swallowing, or severe itching with raised bumps on the skin.
  • Muscle damage in adults (stop and contact your doctor immediately if you have unusual muscle pain that lasts for a long time)
  • Severe stomach pain (due to inflammation of the pancreas)
  • Increased levels of liver enzymes in your blood
  • Bleeding or bruising more easily than usual (due to a low number of platelets in your blood)
  • Lupus-like syndrome (symptoms include skin rash, joint problems, and effects on blood cells)
  • Yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice)
  • Hepatitis (inflammation of the liver)
  • Traces of blood in your urine
  • Nerve damage in legs and arms (e.g., numbness)
  • Joint pain
  • Memory loss
  • Breast enlargement in men (gynecomastia)
  • Diarrhea
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath
  • Swelling (oedema)
  • Sleep disorders, including difficulty sleeping and nightmares
  • Sexual problems
  • Depression
  • Breathing problems, including a cough that lasts a long time and/or shortness of breath or fever
  • Tendon injuries
  • Persistent muscle weakness
  • Myasthenia gravis (a disease causing general muscle weakness, sometimes affecting breathing muscles)
  • Ocular myasthenia (a disease causing muscle weakness in the eye)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to rosuvastatin or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Stop taking immediately and see a doctor if you develop a severe skin rash, peeling skin, blisters, or mouth sores.
  • Do not take if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. If you become pregnant, stop the medicine and tell your doctor.
  • Do not take if you have liver disease.
  • Do not take if you have severe kidney problems.

  • Tell your doctor if you have repeated or unexplained muscle pain or aches.
  • Do not take if you are using a medicine combination of sofosbuvir, velpatasvir, and voxilaprevir (for Hepatitis C).
  • Do not take if you are using a medicine called ciclosporin (used after organ transplants).
  • Rosuvastatin Actavis should not be given to children under 6 years of age.
  • The 40 mg dose of Rosuvastatin Actavis is not suitable for children and adolescents under 18 years.
  • Tell your doctor if you regularly drink a lot of alcohol.
  • Tell your doctor if your thyroid gland does not work properly.
  • Tell your doctor if you are taking other cholesterol-lowering medicines called fibrates.
  • Tell your doctor if you are taking medicines for HIV infection.
  • Tell your doctor if you are taking or have recently taken fusidic acid (an antibiotic). You may need to stop Rosuvastatin Actavis temporarily.
  • Tell your doctor if you are over 70 years old.
  • Tell your doctor if you have severe breathing problems.
  • Tell your doctor if you are of Asian origin.
  • Tell your doctor if you have myasthenia or ocular myasthenia (conditions causing muscle weakness), as statins can sometimes worsen these conditions.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Reduce the dose in moderately severe renal impairment. Do not use in severe renal impairment. Possible adverse effects include muscle pain and muscular weakness. Concurrent use of aluminium and magnesium reduces the effectiveness of the drug,. Consider potential interactions.
