How to Use

Dosage

Start with 5 mg or 10 mg daily. Your doctor may adjust the dose based on your cholesterol levels and risk factors.

Method

Swallow the tablet whole with water once a day, at any time, with or without food. Try to take it at the same time each day.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 40 mg.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Headache
  • Abdominal pain
  • Constipation
  • Nausea
  • Muscle pain
  • Feeling weak
  • Dizziness
  • Increased protein in urine (usually normalizes on its own)
  • Rash or itching
  • Developing diabetes (more likely if you have high blood sugar, high blood fat, are overweight, or have high blood pressure)
RARE
  • Severe abdominal pain (due to inflammation of the pancreas)
  • Increased liver enzymes in the blood (shown in blood tests)
  • Bleeding or bruising more easily
  • Lupus-like syndrome (symptoms like rash, joint pain, effects on blood cells)
  • Yellowing of skin or eyes (jaundice)
  • Liver inflammation (hepatitis)
  • Nerve damage in arms or legs (e.g., numbness)
  • Joint pain
  • Memory loss
  • Breast enlargement in men (gynecomastia)
  • Diarrhea
  • Cough or shortness of breath
  • Swelling (edema)
  • Sleep problems (like insomnia or nightmares)
  • Sexual problems
  • Depression
  • Tendon damage
  • Persistent muscle weakness

Important Warnings

  • Stop taking Rosuvastatin Actavis and get medical help right away if you have signs of an allergic reaction (like trouble breathing, swelling of your face/lips/tongue/throat, or severe itching with raised bumps) or serious skin reactions (like red, blistering, or peeling skin, or sores in your mouth/eyes/genitals, often with fever).
  • Contact your doctor right away if you have unusual muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness that lasts longer than expected, especially if accompanied by fever or feeling unwell.
  • Do not use this medicine if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. If you become pregnant during treatment, stop immediately and tell your doctor.
  • Do not use this medicine if you have liver disease or severe kidney problems.
  • Tell your doctor if you regularly drink large amounts of alcohol.

  • Talk to your doctor if you have myasthenia (general muscle weakness, sometimes including breathing muscles) or ocular myasthenia (eye muscle weakness), as statins can worsen these conditions.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Reduce the dose in moderately severe renal impairment. Do not use in severe renal impairment. Possible adverse effects include muscle pain and muscular weakness. Concurrent use of aluminium and magnesium reduces the effectiveness of the drug,. Consider potential interactions.
