How to Use

Dosage

Start with 5 mg or 10 mg once a day. Your doctor may increase the dose slowly over several weeks to find the right amount for you. For children aged 6-17, the dose is usually 5-20 mg once a day.

Method

Swallow the tablet whole with water once a day. You can take it at any time, with or without food, but try to take it at the same time each day to help you remember.

Important

The maximum daily dose for adults is 40 mg. Children should not take doses of 30 mg or higher.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Headache
  • Stomach pain
  • Constipation
  • Nausea (feeling sick)
  • Muscle pain
  • Feeling weak
  • Dizziness
  • Protein in urine (mostly for 40 mg dose, usually goes away on its own)
  • Diabetes (more likely if you have high blood sugar, fats, or high blood pressure)
RARE
  • Rash, itching, or other skin reactions (less common)
  • Severe allergic reaction (swelling of face, lips, tongue/throat, trouble swallowing/breathing, severe itching)
  • Muscle damage (unusual, long-lasting muscle pain, stop medicine and see doctor)
  • Severe stomach pain (pancreatitis)
  • Increased liver enzymes in blood
  • Easier bleeding or bruising (low platelet count)
  • Lupus-like syndrome (rash, joint problems, blood cell effects)
  • Yellowing of skin and eyes (jaundice)
  • Liver inflammation (hepatitis)
  • Traces of blood in urine
  • Nerve damage in arms and legs (numbness, loss of feeling)
  • Joint pain
  • Memory loss
  • Enlarged breasts in men (gynecomastia)
  • Diarrhea
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath
  • Swelling (edema)
  • Sleep problems (insomnia, nightmares)
  • Sexual problems
  • Depression
  • Breathing problems (persistent cough, shortness of breath, fever)
  • Tendon damage
  • Persistent muscle weakness
  • Myasthenia gravis (general muscle weakness, sometimes affecting breathing muscles)
  • Ocular myasthenia (eye muscle weakness)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to rosuvastatin or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not take if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding. Use effective birth control during treatment.
  • Do not take if you have a liver disease or a severe kidney problem.
  • Stop taking this medicine and see a doctor immediately if you get unusual muscle aches or weakness that lasts a long time, or if you have a muscle rupture.
  • Stop taking this medicine and seek immediate medical help if you develop severe skin reactions like a widespread rash, peeling skin, blisters, or swelling of the face, lips, tongue, and throat (allergic reaction).

  • Do not take if you are taking medicines for Hepatitis C (sofosbuvir, velpatasvir, and voxilaprevir) or ciclosporin (used after organ transplants).

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Reduce the dose in moderately severe renal impairment. Do not use in severe renal impairment. Possible adverse effects include muscle pain and muscular weakness. Concurrent use of aluminium and magnesium reduces the effectiveness of the drug,. Consider potential interactions.
