How to Use

Dosage

The device delivers about 5 ml of medicine per hour.

Method

This medicine is given as a slow drip (infusion) after surgery to relieve pain. It is delivered through a small tube placed near a nerve or into the surgical wound, connected to a special pump.

Important

Your healthcare team sets the pump to give you the correct amount of medicine. They will check it to make sure you get a safe dose and will stop the infusion if you show signs of receiving too much.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Low blood pressure, which may make you feel dizzy or lightheaded.
  • Nausea (feeling sick to your stomach).
  • Tingling sensations (like pins and needles).
  • Dizziness.
  • Headache.
  • Slow or fast heart rate.
  • High blood pressure.
  • Vomiting.
  • Difficulty urinating.
  • High fever or chills.
  • Back pain.
RARE
  • Sudden, severe allergic reactions (like a severe rash, swelling of the face/lips, trouble breathing, or fainting).
  • Anxiety.
  • Reduced feeling or sensitivity in the skin.
  • Vertigo (a spinning sensation).
  • Difficulty breathing.
  • Low body temperature.
  • Symptoms of too much medicine: seizures, dizziness, numbness around the mouth or tongue, hearing problems, vision problems, speech problems, muscle stiffness, and shaking.
  • Heart attack.
  • Irregular heartbeats.
  • Nerve damage (which may cause lasting problems).
  • Involuntary muscle movements.

Important Warnings

  • Tell your doctor if you are allergic to Ropivacaine BioQ or similar pain medicines.
  • Inform your doctor about any heart, liver, or kidney problems, or a rare blood condition called porphyria.
  • If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning a pregnancy, talk to your doctor.
  • This medicine can make you sleepy and affect your reactions. Do not drive or use machines until the day after you stop using it.
  • Do not bend or wrap anything tightly around the tube that delivers the medicine.

  • Do not use the medicine pump if any part is broken or damaged.
  • The clear flow restrictor must stay taped to your skin. Do not put hot or cold packs over it.
  • If the pump accidentally detaches from the tube, do not reattach it. Call your doctor or nurse. Do not bathe or shower, or touch the wound dressing/tube while it's in place, to avoid infection.
