How to Use

Method

This medicine is given as an injection by your doctor. It can be injected into the lower spine or near the area that needs to be numbed.

Important

Your doctor will give you the correct amount, and the effect usually lasts 2 to 6 hours.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Low blood pressure, which might make you feel dizzy or faint.
  • Feeling sick (nausea).
  • Tingling or "pins and needles" feeling.
  • Dizziness.
  • Headache.
  • Slow or fast heartbeat.
  • High blood pressure.
  • Vomiting.
  • Trouble urinating.
  • Fever or shivering (chills).
  • Stiffness.
  • Back pain.
RARE
  • Sudden rash (allergic reaction).
  • Itchy or bumpy rash (hives, allergic reaction).
  • Swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or other body parts (allergic reaction).
  • Shortness of breath, wheezing, or difficulty breathing (allergic reaction).
  • Feeling of losing consciousness (allergic reaction).
  • Restlessness.
  • Fainting.
  • Reduced skin sensitivity or feeling.
  • Breathing difficulties (not related to allergic reaction).
  • Low body temperature.
  • Heart attack.
  • Irregular heartbeat (arrhythmia).
  • Nerve damage, which can sometimes be permanent.

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to ropivacaine hydrochloride or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not take if you are allergic to other similar local anesthetics (like lidocaine or bupivacaine).
  • Do not take if you have been told your body has too little blood (hypovolemia).
  • This medicine should not be injected directly into a blood vessel.
  • Do not inject into an inflamed area.

  • Do not use in the cervix to ease pain during childbirth.
  • Tell your doctor if you have a poor general condition due to age or other factors, heart disease, severe liver disease, severe kidney disease, or acute porphyria.
  • An injection in the lower spine can cause low blood pressure or a slow heart rate.
  • Tell your doctor about all other medicines you take, as some can change how Ropivacain Fresenius Kabi works or how long it stays in your body.
  • Do not drive or operate machines on the same day you receive this medicine, as it can make you sleepy and affect your reactions.
  • This medicine should not be injected into the lower spine for children under 12 years old.
