How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will decide your dose based on the type of pain relief you need, your size, age, and health.

Method

This medicine is given as an injection by a doctor or nurse. It can be injected into the area needing to be numbed, nearby, or into the epidural space around your spinal cord.

Important

For anesthesia before surgery, the effect usually lasts 2-10 hours. For pain relief during or after surgery, it can last up to 72 hours.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Low blood pressure, which might make you feel dizzy or faint.
  • Feeling sick (nausea).
  • Tingling or numbness.
  • Dizziness.
  • Headache.
  • Slow or fast heart rate.
  • High blood pressure.
  • Vomiting.
  • Difficulty urinating.
  • Fever or chills.
  • Stiffness.
  • Back pain.
RARE
  • Severe allergic reactions (e.g., sudden rash, itching, swelling of face or throat, trouble breathing, feeling faint). Seek medical help immediately.
  • Anxiety.
  • Reduced skin sensitivity or feeling.
  • Fainting.
  • Breathing difficulties.
  • Low body temperature.
  • Symptoms of too much medicine (overdose), such as convulsions, dizziness, numbness around the lips and tongue, hearing or vision problems, slurred speech, muscle stiffness, or tremors.
  • Heart attack.
  • Irregular heartbeat.
  • Horner's syndrome (a condition affecting the eye and face, causing a small pupil, droopy eyelid, and lack of sweating on one side).
  • Numbness due to nerve irritation from the injection, which is usually temporary.
  • Involuntary muscle movements.
  • Nerve damage, which is rare but can be permanent.
  • Whole body numbness if too much medicine is given into the fluid around the spinal cord.

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to ropivacaine, other similar local anesthetics (like lidocaine), or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not take if you have reduced blood volume (hypovolemia).
  • This medicine must not be injected directly into a blood vessel or into an inflamed area.
  • It should not be used in the cervix to relieve pain during childbirth.
  • Tell your doctor or nurse if you have heart, liver, or kidney problems, a poor general health condition, or a rare blood disorder called acute porphyria, as your dose may need to be adjusted.

  • Inform your doctor about all other medicines you are taking (including strong pain relievers, medicines for irregular heartbeats, antidepressants, or antibiotics) as they can affect Ropivacain Fresenius Kabi.
  • This medicine can make you feel sleepy and slow your reactions. Do not drive or use machines on the day you receive Ropivacain Fresenius Kabi.
