How to Use

Dosage

The starting dose is usually 2 mg once daily for the first week, which may then be increased by your doctor.

Method

Take one tablet once daily at the same time each day with a glass of water. You can take it with or without food. Do not break, chew, or crush the tablet.

Important

Some patients may take up to 24 mg per day, as directed by your doctor.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Dizziness or fainting
  • Feeling sleepy or falling asleep suddenly without warning
  • Nausea (feeling sick) or vomiting
  • Hallucinations (seeing, hearing, or feeling things that aren't real)
  • Heartburn or stomach pain
  • Constipation
  • Swelling in your legs, feet, or hands
  • Uncontrolled movements (dyskinesias) if taken with levodopa
RARE
  • Feeling dizzy or faint when you stand up suddenly (due to low blood pressure)
  • Feeling very tired during the day (extreme sleepiness)
  • Mental problems like confusion, delusions (false beliefs), or paranoia (feeling overly suspicious)
  • Hiccups
  • Allergic reactions such as red, itchy skin rashes, swelling of the face, lips, mouth, tongue or throat, which can cause difficulty swallowing or breathing
  • Changes in how your liver works, shown in blood tests
  • Aggressive behavior
  • Strong urges that are hard to control, such as excessive gambling, overeating, excessive spending, or increased sexual urges
  • Periods of overactivity, feeling overly happy, or easily irritated
  • Symptoms like depression, apathy, anxiety, tiredness, sweating, or pain after stopping or lowering your dose
  • Spontaneous erection
  • Confusion if taken with levodopa

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to ropinirole or any other ingredients in Ropinostad.
  • Tell your doctor if you have severe kidney or liver disease.
  • Talk to your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.
  • This medicine is not usually given to people under 18 years old.
  • Do not stop taking Ropinostad suddenly without your doctor's advice, as this can worsen your Parkinson's symptoms.

  • Ropinostad can make you feel very sleepy or fall asleep suddenly. Do not drive or operate machinery if this happens.
  • Tell your doctor if you notice unusual urges or behaviors, such as strong urges to gamble, overeat, or increased sexual urges.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have serious heart problems or severe mental health issues.

Category C
