How to Use

Dosage

Start with 2 mg once daily for the first week, then your doctor may increase it to 4 mg once daily from the second week; dosage will be adjusted for older patients.

Method

Take one tablet once daily at the same time each day. Swallow the tablet whole with water; do not break, chew, or crush it.

Important

The maximum daily dose for some patients can be up to 24 mg.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Fainting
  • Feeling sleepy
  • Nausea (feeling sick)
  • Suddenly falling asleep without feeling tired first
  • Hallucinations (seeing, hearing, or feeling things that are not real)
  • Vomiting
  • Dizziness (spinning sensation)
  • Heartburn
  • Stomach ache
  • Constipation
  • Swelling in the legs, feet, or hands
RARE
  • Dizziness or weakness, especially when standing up quickly (due to low blood pressure)
  • Low blood pressure
  • Extreme tiredness during the day
  • Mental problems like confusion, delusions (unreal ideas), or paranoia (feeling overly suspicious)
  • Hiccups
  • Allergic reactions such as red, itchy skin rashes, swelling of the face, lips, mouth, tongue, or throat which may cause difficulty swallowing or breathing
  • Changes in liver function, as seen in blood tests
  • Aggressive behavior
  • Strong desire to take more medicine than needed to control symptoms (dopaminergic dysregulation syndrome)
  • Uncontrolled urges or strong desires to do things that could harm you or others, such as extreme gambling, overeating, overspending, or increased sexual desire/behavior
  • Periods of being overly active, having an elevated mood, or being irritable
  • Symptoms after stopping or reducing the medicine, such as depression, apathy, anxiety, tiredness, sweating, or pain
  • Spontaneous erection
  • Uncontrolled movements (dyskinesias), especially when taken with levodopa
  • Confusion, especially when taken with levodopa

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to ropinirole or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not take if you have severe kidney or liver disease.
  • Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, think you might be pregnant, or are breastfeeding.
  • This medicine is not for people under 18 years old.
  • Tell your doctor if you have severe heart problems or serious mental health issues.

  • This medicine can make you feel sleepy, very tired during the day, or suddenly fall asleep. Do not drive or operate machines if this happens.

  • Tell your doctor if you start or stop smoking while taking this medicine.
  • Do not stop taking this medicine suddenly without your doctor's advice, as your Parkinson's symptoms may worsen.
