How to Use

Dosage

One Rivaxa 10 mg tablet once daily.

Method

Swallow the tablet whole with water. You can take it with or without food. If you cannot swallow it whole, you can crush it and mix it with water or applesauce just before taking.

Important

The typical maximum daily dose is one 10 mg tablet.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Pale skin, weakness, or shortness of breath due to low red blood cells.
  • Bleeding from the stomach, intestines, urinary tract, genitals (including blood in urine, heavy periods), nose, or gums.
  • Bleeding in the eye or under the skin (bruising).
  • Coughing up blood.
  • Bleeding or oozing from a surgical wound.
  • Swelling or pain in arms or legs.
  • Kidney problems (shown in blood tests).
  • Fever.
  • Stomach pain, indigestion, nausea, vomiting, constipation, or diarrhea.
  • Low blood pressure, causing dizziness or fainting when standing up.
  • Weakness, tiredness, headache, or dizziness.
  • Rash or itchy skin.
  • Increased liver enzymes (seen in blood tests).
RARE
  • Bleeding in the brain, causing severe headache, one-sided weakness, vomiting, seizures, or confusion.
  • Bleeding into a joint, causing pain and swelling.
  • Low number of platelets (cells that help blood clot).
  • Allergic reactions, including skin rashes.
  • Liver problems, such as yellow skin or eyes (jaundice), or liver inflammation.
  • Feeling unwell, fainting, faster heart rate, dry mouth, or hives.
  • Bleeding into a muscle.
  • Local swelling.
  • A very rare type of lung inflammation caused by certain white blood cells (eosinophilic lung inflammation).
  • Kidney failure after severe bleeding.
  • Increased pressure in arm or leg muscles due to bleeding, causing pain, swelling, numbness, or paralysis (compartment syndrome).

Important Warnings

  • Do not take Rivaxa if you are allergic to rivaroxaban or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not take Rivaxa if you have active or heavy bleeding.
  • Tell your doctor if you have a medical condition that increases your risk of bleeding, such as a stomach ulcer, a recent brain or eye surgery, or severe kidney or liver disease.
  • Do not take Rivaxa if you are already taking other medicines to prevent blood clots, unless specifically instructed by your doctor.
  • Do not take Rivaxa if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

  • If you need spinal anesthesia or an injection in your spine, tell your doctor immediately if you feel numbness or weakness in your legs, or problems with your bladder or bowel after the procedure.
