How to Use

Dosage

The dosage is adjusted individually. Treatment starts with a small dose, which is then gradually increased to a suitable maintenance dose. Never change the dose prescribed by your doctor.

Method

Take Rivatril tablets with plenty of liquid. The tablet can be divided into equal doses.

Your doctor will determine your suitable maximum daily dose. Never exceed the dose prescribed by your doctor.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use Rivatril if you are allergic to clonazepam, other benzodiazepines, or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not use Rivatril if you have severe breathing problems or severe liver failure.
  • Do not use Rivatril if you abuse medicines, drugs, or alcohol.
  • If you have suicidal thoughts, contact your doctor immediately.
  • Avoid alcohol during Rivatril treatment, as it can change the medicine's effects or cause unexpected side effects.

  • Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, as Rivatril should not be used during pregnancy unless your doctor considers it absolutely necessary.
  • Rivatril should not be used during breastfeeding.
  • This medicine may impair your ability to drive or perform tasks requiring precise concentration. Be responsible for assessing if you are able to perform these tasks during treatment.
  • If your doctor decides to stop Rivatril treatment, the daily dose will be gradually reduced, as sudden discontinuation can cause side effects.
  • Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten tablet.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category D

Avoid use in older adults. Sedative. A long-acting. Increases the risk of drug addiction, cognitive disorder and traffic accidents. Increases risk of falls. Paradoxically, may increase anxiety, restlessness and aggression. (updated 6.10.2025)
