How to Use

Dosage

Treatment usually starts with a small dose, which your doctor will gradually increase based on how you respond.

Method

Take the capsules whole with liquid, twice a day (morning and evening) with food. Do not open or crush them.

Important

The maximum dose is 6 mg, taken twice a day.

  • High blood pressure
  • Urinary tract infection
  • Hallucinations (seeing things that are not real)
  • Heart rhythm problems (fast or slow heartbeat)
  • Bleeding in the stomach or intestines (blood in stool or vomit)
  • Pancreatitis (severe stomach pain, often with nausea or vomiting)
  • Severe vomiting that can tear the esophagus (food pipe)
  • Dehydration (loss of too much fluid from the body)
  • Aggression
  • Irregular heartbeat
  • Pisa syndrome (involuntary muscle contractions causing body or head to bend to one side)
  • Movement disorders
  • Hyperactivity (high activity, restlessness)
  • Allergic reaction at the patch site (e.g., blisters or skin inflammation), if using patches.

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to rivastigmine or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not take if you have had an allergic skin reaction to rivastigmine before.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have or have had heart problems, like an irregular or slow heartbeat.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have or have had stomach ulcers.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have or have had trouble urinating.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Increases the risk of cardiac conduction disorders, such as bradycardia. May exacerbate existing COPD.
