How to Use

Dosage

Adults typically take one 20 mg tablet once a day for preventing clots, or one 15 mg tablet twice a day for 3 weeks followed by 20 mg once a day for treating clots. For children, the dose is based on their body weight and determined by a doctor.

Method

Take the tablet(s) with food, preferably with water. If you have trouble swallowing, you can crush the tablet and mix it with water or apple puree. Eat immediately after taking the mixture.

Important

Do not take more than 20 mg per day when prescribed once daily, or 30 mg (two 15 mg tablets) per day when prescribed twice daily. Never change your dose without talking to your doctor.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Feeling weak or tired, headache, dizziness; pale skin or shortness of breath due to fewer red blood cells.
  • Bleeding (such as in the stomach or intestines, urinary tract or genitals, gums, nose, eyes, or under the skin); swelling or pain in arms or legs; fever; stomach pain, indigestion, nausea, vomiting, constipation, diarrhea; low blood pressure (feeling dizzy or fainting when standing up); skin rash, itchy skin; changes in blood tests (e.g., increased liver enzymes).
  • Coughing up blood; bleeding after surgery, or blood/fluid leaking from a surgical wound.
RARE
  • Bleeding in the brain or inside the head (can cause headache, one-sided weakness, vomiting, seizures, decreased alertness, stiff neck – seek urgent medical help).
  • Bleeding into a joint (causing pain and swelling); low platelet count; allergic reactions, including severe skin reactions (like widespread rashes, blisters, or skin peeling); liver problems (like yellow skin and eyes, bile flow blockage, liver inflammation or damage); fainting or feeling generally unwell; fast heart rate; dry mouth; hives; bleeding into a muscle; local swelling; blood clot in the groin after a heart procedure; accumulation of white blood cells in the lungs (eosinophilic lung inflammation).

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to rivaroxaban or any other ingredients.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have any active or severe bleeding.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have a disease or condition that greatly increases your risk of serious bleeding, such as a stomach ulcer, brain injury or bleeding, or recent brain or eye surgery.
  • Do not take this medicine if you are taking other blood-thinning medicines (e.g., warfarin, dabigatran, apixaban, or heparin), unless your doctor tells you to switch or use heparin for a catheter.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have liver disease that increases your risk of bleeding.

  • Do not take this medicine if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • Tell your doctor if you have severe kidney problems, or if you are a child or adolescent with moderate to severe kidney problems, as this can affect how the medicine works.
  • Tell your doctor if you have very high blood pressure that is not controlled by medicine.
  • Tell your doctor if you have stomach or bowel conditions that may cause bleeding, such as inflammation or tumors in the stomach, intestines, or reproductive/urinary organs.
  • Tell your doctor if you have a prosthetic heart valve.
  • Tell your doctor if you have antiphospholipid syndrome, an immune system disorder that increases the risk of blood clots.
  • It is very important to take Rivaroxaban Stada exactly as prescribed before and after surgery. If your surgery involves an injection or catheter into your spine, tell your doctor immediately if you experience numbness, weakness, or problems with bowel or bladder function after the anesthesia wears off.
