How to Use

Dosage

Adults typically take one Rivaroxaban Stada 20 mg tablet once daily, or one 15 mg tablet twice daily for the first 3 weeks, then one 20 mg tablet once daily.

Method

Take the tablet(s) with food, preferably with water. If you have difficulty swallowing, tablets can be crushed and mixed with water or applesauce, then consumed immediately with food.

Important

Do not exceed the dose prescribed by your doctor. The maximum daily dose is typically 20 mg, but can be up to 30 mg during the initial treatment period.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Decrease in red blood cells (may cause pale skin, weakness, or shortness of breath)
  • Bleeding in stomach or intestines, urinary or genital bleeding (including blood in urine and heavy periods), nosebleeds, gum bleeding
  • Eye bleeding (including in the whites of the eyes)
  • Bleeding in tissues or body cavities (hematoma, bruise)
  • Coughing up blood
  • Bleeding on or under the skin
  • Bleeding after surgery
  • Oozing of blood or fluid from a surgical wound
  • Swelling in limbs
  • Limb pain
  • Kidney problems (seen in lab tests)
  • Fever
  • Abdominal pain, indigestion, nausea or vomiting, constipation, diarrhea
  • Low blood pressure (may cause dizziness or fainting when standing up)
  • Decreased general strength and energy (weakness, fatigue), headache, dizziness
  • Rash, itchy skin
  • Blood tests may show increased liver enzymes
RARE
  • Bleeding in the brain or inside the head (symptoms listed under warnings)
  • Bleeding into a joint causing pain and swelling
  • Low platelet count (platelets are blood cells that help blood clot)
  • Allergic reactions, including allergic skin reactions
  • Liver function problems (seen in lab tests)
  • Blood tests may show increased bilirubin, pancreatic or liver enzymes, or platelet count
  • Fainting
  • Feeling unwell
  • Fast heartbeat
  • Dry mouth
  • Hives
  • Bleeding into a muscle
  • Blocked bile flow (cholestasis), liver inflammation (hepatitis), including liver damage
  • Yellowing of skin and eyes (jaundice)
  • Local swelling
  • Blood collection in the groin (hematoma), a complication after a heart procedure where a catheter is inserted into an artery in the leg
  • Accumulation of eosinophils (a type of white blood cell) causing lung inflammation (eosinophilic pneumonia)
  • Kidney failure after severe bleeding
  • Kidney bleeding, sometimes with blood in urine, leading to kidney dysfunction (anticoagulant-related nephropathy)
  • Increased pressure in leg and arm muscles after bleeding, causing pain, swelling, altered sensation, numbness, or paralysis (compartment syndrome)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to rivaroxaban or any other ingredients.
  • Do not take if you are experiencing heavy bleeding.
  • Do not take if you have a condition that increases the risk of severe bleeding (e.g., stomach ulcer, brain injury or bleeding, recent brain or eye surgery).
  • Do not take if you are taking other blood thinning medicines (e.g., warfarin, dabigatran, apixaban, or heparin), unless switching treatments or flushing a catheter.
  • Do not take if you have a liver disease that increases your risk of bleeding.

  • Do not take if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • Seek immediate medical attention if you notice signs of bleeding in the brain, such as severe headache, weakness on one side, vomiting, seizures, decreased consciousness, or stiff neck.
  • Contact your doctor if you experience prolonged or heavy bleeding.
  • Alert your doctor if you feel unusually weak, tired, pale, dizzy, have a headache, unexplained swelling, shortness of breath, or chest pain.
  • Seek urgent medical care if you develop severe skin reactions like widespread rash, blisters, or sores in your mouth or eyes, or a drug reaction with rash, fever, organ inflammation, and abnormal blood counts (DRESS syndrome).
  • Get immediate medical help if you experience signs of a severe allergic reaction, such as swelling of the face, lips, mouth, tongue or throat, difficulty swallowing, hives, breathing difficulties, or a sudden drop in blood pressure.
