How to Use

Dosage

Take one 2.5 mg tablet twice a day.

Method

Take your medicine at the same time each day (e.g., one tablet in the morning and one in the evening), with or without food. If you have trouble swallowing the tablet whole, you can crush it and mix it with water or apple sauce right before taking it.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 5 mg (two 2.5 mg tablets).

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Bleeding (such as nosebleeds, gum bleeding, or blood in urine)
  • Feeling tired or weak
  • Headache
  • Dizziness
  • Stomach ache, indigestion, nausea, vomiting, constipation, or diarrhea
  • Rash or itchy skin
  • Fever
  • Swelling or pain in arms or legs
RARE
  • Severe bleeding inside the brain or joints
  • Low platelet count (blood cells that help blood clot)
  • Severe allergic reactions (e.g., swelling of face, lips, or tongue; difficulty breathing)
  • Liver problems (can be seen in blood tests)
  • Feeling faint or rapid heartbeat
  • Muscle bleeding
  • Yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice)
  • Severe skin reactions (widespread rash, blisters, or sores in mouth or eyes)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to rivaroxaban or any of its ingredients.
  • Do not take this medicine if you are bleeding a lot or have conditions that significantly increase your risk of severe bleeding, such as a stomach ulcer or recent brain surgery.
  • Do not take other blood thinning medicines at the same time, unless your doctor specifically tells you to for a medical reason.
  • Do not take this medicine if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have severe liver disease that increases your risk of bleeding.
