How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will tell you the exact dose. For adults, it's typically one 20 mg tablet once a day, or one 15 mg tablet twice a day for the first 3 weeks, then 20 mg once a day. For children over 30 kg, the dose depends on their weight.

Method

Take the tablet(s) with food, swallowing whole with water. If you can't swallow the tablet, you can crush it and mix it with water or applesauce, then eat food immediately.

Important

The maximum daily dose is typically 20 mg, but for some conditions, it can be up to 30 mg as prescribed by your doctor.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Bleeding in the stomach, intestines, urinary tract, genitals (including blood in urine and heavy menstrual bleeding), nosebleeds, gum bleeding, eye bleeding, bleeding into tissues (bruising), bleeding under the skin, or bleeding after surgery.
  • Decrease in red blood cells, which can cause pale skin, weakness, or shortness of breath.
  • Fever, stomach pain, indigestion, nausea, vomiting, constipation, diarrhea, headache, dizziness, weakness, tiredness.
  • Low blood pressure (may make you feel dizzy or faint when standing up).
  • Skin rash, itching.
  • Swelling in arms or legs, pain in arms or legs, reduced kidney function (seen in blood tests), cough with blood.
  • Increased liver enzymes (seen in blood tests).
RARE
  • Bleeding in the brain (symptoms: headache, one-sided weakness, vomiting, seizures, decreased consciousness, stiff neck – seek urgent medical help), bleeding into a joint causing pain and swelling, bleeding into a muscle.
  • Low platelet count (cells that help blood clot).
  • Allergic reactions, including skin reactions or severe allergic reactions with swelling of face, lips, mouth, tongue, throat, difficulty swallowing, rash, breathing problems, or sudden drop in blood pressure.
  • Liver problems, hepatitis (liver inflammation), cholestasis (reduced bile flow), jaundice (yellowing of skin and eyes).
  • Fainting, feeling unwell, fast heart rate, dry mouth, hives, eosinophilic pneumonia (lung inflammation), kidney failure after severe bleeding, blood in urine leading to kidney problems, increased pressure in arm/leg muscles after bleeding (compartment syndrome causing pain, swelling, numbness, paralysis).

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to rivaroxaban or any other ingredients.
  • Do not take this medicine if you are bleeding heavily or have a condition that increases your risk of serious bleeding (e.g., stomach ulcer, recent brain/eye surgery).
  • Tell your doctor if you are taking other medicines that stop blood from clotting (blood thinners), as this can increase your risk of bleeding.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have a liver disease that increases your risk of bleeding.
  • Do not take this medicine if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

  • Tell your doctor if you have severe kidney disease, as your dose may need to be adjusted.
  • Tell your doctor if you have an artificial heart valve.
  • If you need surgery or a spinal injection, it's very important to take this medicine exactly as your doctor tells you before and after the procedure.
  • This medicine is not recommended for children weighing less than 30 kg.
  • Tell your doctor if you have very high blood pressure that is not controlled by medication.
