How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will tell you your exact dose, but it's often one 15 mg or 20 mg tablet once or twice daily with food.

Method

Take the tablet(s) with food and swallow with water. If you can't swallow the tablet, you can crush it and mix it with water or applesauce, then eat food right away.

Important

Do not take more than your doctor prescribes. The highest daily dose is usually 30 mg for short-term treatment and 20 mg for long-term use, unless your doctor tells you otherwise.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Feeling tired, weak, or short of breath due to fewer red blood cells.
  • Bleeding (e.g., from the nose, gums, stomach, intestines, urinary tract, genitals, or eyes), coughing up blood, or bruising easily.
  • Bleeding after surgery or fluid leaking from a surgical wound.
  • Swelling or pain in your arms or legs.
  • Kidney problems (may show up in doctor's tests).
  • Fever.
  • Stomach pain, indigestion, feeling sick (nausea), throwing up (vomiting), constipation, or diarrhea.
  • Low blood pressure, which might make you feel dizzy or faint when standing up.
  • General weakness, tiredness, headache, or dizziness.
  • Skin rash or itchy skin.
  • Blood tests showing higher levels of some liver enzymes.
RARE
  • Serious bleeding in the brain or inside the head (symptoms include severe headache, weakness on one side of the body, vomiting, seizures, confusion, or stiff neck). Get urgent medical help.
  • Bleeding into a joint, causing pain and swelling.
  • Low levels of platelets (cells that help blood clot).
  • Serious allergic reactions, including widespread severe skin rash, blisters, mouth sores (Stevens-Johnson syndrome), or sudden swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat with difficulty swallowing or breathing and a sudden drop in blood pressure. Get urgent medical help.
  • Liver problems (shown by abnormal blood tests), reduced bile flow, liver inflammation or damage, or yellowing of the skin and eyes (jaundice).
  • Faster heartbeat.
  • Dry mouth.
  • Hives (itchy red welts on the skin).
  • Bleeding into a muscle.
  • Local swelling.
  • Blood collection (hematoma) in the groin, possibly after a heart procedure (pseudoaneurysm).

Important Warnings

  • Do not take Rivaroxaban Sandoz if you are allergic to rivaroxaban or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not take if you are actively bleeding a lot.
  • Do not take if you have a condition or disease that increases your risk of severe bleeding, such as a stomach ulcer, brain injury or bleeding, or recent brain or eye surgery.
  • Do not take if you are using other blood-thinning medicines (like warfarin or heparin), unless your doctor is managing a switch in treatment or keeping a catheter open.
  • Do not take if you have liver disease that increases your bleeding risk.

  • Do not take if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Use reliable birth control if you can become pregnant.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have severe kidney problems, very high blood pressure, a stomach or bowel disease that might cause bleeding, certain eye or lung conditions, an artificial heart valve, or antiphospholipid syndrome. Your doctor will decide if this medicine is right for you.
  • If you need surgery or a procedure, it's crucial to take this medicine exactly as your doctor instructs, both before and after. Report any numbness, weakness, or bowel/bladder issues in your legs after a spinal injection immediately.
