How to Use

Dosage

Take one 10 mg tablet by mouth once a day, unless your doctor tells you otherwise.

Method

Swallow the tablet with water, with or without food. If you have difficulty swallowing the whole tablet, you can crush it and mix it with water or applesauce.

Important

Take only one dose per day and do not exceed your doctor's prescribed dose; never take two doses to make up for a missed one.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Decrease in red blood cells, which can cause pale skin, weakness, or shortness of breath.
  • Bleeding in the stomach or intestines, urinary tract or genital area (including blood in urine and heavy menstrual bleeding), nosebleeds, gum bleeding.
  • Eye bleeding (including bleeding from the whites of the eyes).
  • Bleeding into tissue or body cavities (hematoma, bruising).
  • Coughing up blood.
  • Bleeding from or under the skin.
  • Bleeding after surgery.
  • Oozing of blood or fluid from a surgical wound.
  • Swelling in arms or legs.
  • Pain in arms or legs.
  • Kidney dysfunction (can be seen in tests done by a doctor).
  • Fever.
  • Stomach ache, indigestion, nausea or vomiting, constipation, diarrhea.
  • Low blood pressure (symptoms may include feeling dizzy or fainting when standing up).
  • Reduced general strength and energy (weakness, tiredness), headache, dizziness.
  • Rash, itchy skin.
  • Blood tests may show an increase in some liver enzymes.
RARE
  • Bleeding in the brain or inside the head.
  • Bleeding into a joint, causing pain and swelling.
  • Thrombocytopenia (low number of platelets, which are cells that help blood clot).
  • Allergic reactions, including allergic skin reactions.
  • Liver dysfunction (can be seen in tests done by a doctor).
  • Blood tests may show an increase in bilirubin, some pancreatic or liver enzymes, or platelet count.
  • Fainting.
  • Feeling unwell.
  • Faster heartbeat.
  • Dry mouth.
  • Hives.
  • Bleeding into a muscle.
  • Bile blockage (cholestasis), liver inflammation (hepatitis).
  • Yellowing of the skin and eyes (jaundice).
  • Local swelling.
  • Blood collection (hematoma) in the groin as a complication after a heart procedure where a catheter is inserted into an artery in the leg (pseudoaneurysm).

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to rivaroxaban or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not take if you have severe bleeding.
  • Do not take if you have an organ disease or condition that increases the risk of severe bleeding (e.g., stomach ulcer, brain injury or bleeding, recent brain or eye surgery).
  • Do not take if you are using other medicines to prevent blood clotting (e.g., warfarin, dabigatran, apixaban, or heparin), unless you are switching anticoagulant therapy or receiving heparin through a catheter to keep it open.
  • Do not take if you have a liver disease that increases your risk of bleeding.
