How to Use

Dosage

Take one 10 mg tablet once daily.

Method

Swallow the tablet with water. You can take it with or without food. If you have trouble swallowing, the tablet can be crushed and mixed with water or apple puree.

Important

The maximum dose is one 10 mg tablet per day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Bleeding (such as nosebleeds, gum bleeding, blood in urine, heavy periods, coughing up blood, bruising, bleeding under the skin or after surgery, stomach/intestinal bleeding, eye bleeding)
  • Low red blood cells (pale skin, weakness, shortness of breath)
  • Swelling or pain in arms/legs
  • Fever
  • Stomach pain, upset stomach, nausea, vomiting, constipation, diarrhea
  • Low blood pressure (dizziness, fainting when standing up)
  • Headache, general weakness, dizziness
  • Rash, itchy skin
  • Abnormal liver tests
RARE
  • Bleeding in the brain or joints
  • Low platelet count
  • Allergic reactions (skin reactions, swelling of face/lips/tongue/throat, sudden drop in blood pressure)
  • Fainting, feeling unwell
  • Fast heartbeat, dry mouth, hives
  • Muscle bleeding
  • Liver problems (yellow skin/eyes)
  • Swelling, blood collection in the groin after heart procedures
  • Inflammation in lungs
  • Kidney problems after bleeding, bleeding in kidneys (blood in urine, kidney failure)
  • Increased pressure in arm/leg muscles after bleeding (pain, swelling, numbness, paralysis)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to rivaroxaban or its ingredients.
  • Do not take if you are bleeding heavily.
  • Do not take if you have a disease that increases the risk of severe bleeding, like a stomach ulcer or bleeding in the brain.
  • Do not take if you are taking other medicines to thin your blood (like warfarin), unless changing treatments.
  • Do not take if you have liver disease that increases bleeding risk.

  • Do not take if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • Tell your doctor if you have kidney problems, very high blood pressure, stomach or bowel issues, or a heart valve replacement, as these can increase bleeding risk.
  • This medicine is not for children under 18 years old.
