How to Use

Dosage

One 10 mg tablet once a day.

Method

Take the tablet whole with water, with or without food. If you can't swallow it whole, you can crush it and mix with water or applesauce. Take it at the same time each day.

Important

Do not take more than one 10 mg tablet per day, unless your doctor tells you to; taking too much increases the risk of serious bleeding.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Low red blood cells, causing pale skin, weakness, or shortness of breath.
  • Bleeding from stomach, intestines, urinary tract, genitals (including blood in urine, heavy periods), nose, or gums.
  • Eye bleeding (including from the whites of the eyes).
  • Bleeding into tissues or body cavities (bruising).
  • Coughing up blood.
  • Bleeding from or under the skin.
  • Bleeding after surgery.
  • Leakage of blood or fluid from a surgical wound.
  • Swelling in the arms or legs.
  • Pain in the arms or legs.
  • Kidney problems (seen in blood tests).
  • Fever.
  • Stomach pain, indigestion, nausea or vomiting, constipation, diarrhea.
  • Low blood pressure (may cause dizziness or fainting when standing up).
  • Lack of energy, weakness, tiredness, headache, dizziness.
  • Rash, itchy skin.
  • Blood tests may show increased liver enzymes.
RARE
  • Bleeding in the brain.
  • Bleeding into a joint, causing pain and swelling.
  • Low platelet count (platelets help blood clot).
  • Allergic reactions, including skin reactions.
  • Liver problems (seen in blood tests).
  • Blood tests may show increased bilirubin, pancreas or liver enzymes, or platelet count.
  • Fainting.
  • Feeling generally unwell.
  • Fast heartbeat.
  • Dry mouth.
  • Hives.
  • Muscle bleeding.
  • Blocked bile flow (cholestasis) or liver inflammation (hepatitis), including liver damage.
  • Yellowing of skin and eyes (jaundice).
  • Local swelling.
  • Blood clot in the groin after a heart procedure (pseudoaneurysm).
  • Lung inflammation caused by a type of white blood cell (eosinophilic pneumonia).
  • Kidney failure after severe bleeding.
  • Kidney bleeding, sometimes with blood in urine, leading to kidney problems.
  • Increased pressure in arm or leg muscles after bleeding, causing pain, swelling, altered sensation, numbness, or paralysis (compartment syndrome).

Important Warnings

  • If you are allergic to rivaroxaban or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • If you have heavy bleeding.
  • If you have a disease or condition that increases your risk of severe bleeding (e.g., stomach ulcer, brain injury or bleeding, recent brain or eye surgery).
  • Do not take this medicine with other blood thinners unless your doctor tells you to.
  • If you have a liver disease that increases your risk of bleeding.

  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • If you can become pregnant, use reliable birth control while taking this medicine.
  • This medicine can cause dizziness or fainting. Do not drive or use machinery if you feel dizzy or faint.
  • If you have an intolerance to some sugars (like lactose), talk to your doctor before taking this medicine.
  • Tell your doctor if you have moderate to severe kidney disease.
  • Tell your doctor if you have bleeding disorders.
  • Tell your doctor if you have very high blood pressure that is not controlled by medicine.
  • Tell your doctor if you have stomach or bowel problems that could cause bleeding, such as ulcers, inflammation, or tumors.
  • Tell your doctor if you have an eye disease affecting blood vessels (retinopathy).
  • Tell your doctor if you have a lung disease with widened airways filled with pus (bronchiectasis) or if you have had lung bleeding before.
  • Tell your doctor if you have an artificial heart valve.
  • Tell your doctor if you have antiphospholipid syndrome (an immune disorder that increases blood clot risk).
  • Tell your doctor if your blood pressure is unstable or if you need other treatment or surgery for a blood clot in your lungs.
