Rivaroxaban ADOH is a medicine used to prevent and treat blood clots in adults, especially after hip or knee surgery, or for existing clots in legs and lungs.

How to Use

Dosage

For preventing clots after hip/knee surgery, typically 1 tablet (10 mg) once a day. For treating existing clots, the dose is usually 1 tablet (10 mg or 20 mg) once a day, as prescribed by your doctor.

Method

Swallow the tablet with water, with or without food, at the same time each day. If you have trouble swallowing, you can crush the tablet and mix it with water or applesauce just before taking it.

Important

Do not take more than one dose per day, and do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one. The maximum dose is typically 20 mg once daily.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Lower number of red blood cells, which can make you look pale, feel weak, or short of breath.
  • Bleeding from your stomach or intestines, or from your urinary or genital area (like blood in your pee or heavy periods). You might also have nosebleeds or bleeding gums.
  • Bleeding in your eye, including in the whites of your eyes.
  • Bleeding into your body tissues or cavities (like getting a bruise).
  • Coughing up blood.
  • Bleeding from or under the skin.
  • Bleeding after surgery.
  • Blood or fluid leaking from your surgery wound.
  • Swelling or pain in your arms or legs.
  • Kidney problems (your doctor might see this in blood tests).
  • Fever.
  • Stomach pain, upset stomach, feeling sick or throwing up, constipation, or diarrhea.
  • Low blood pressure, which can make you feel dizzy or pass out when you stand up.
  • Feeling weak, tired, or having a headache or dizziness.
  • Rash or itchy skin.
  • Blood tests might show higher levels of some liver chemicals.
RARE
  • Bleeding in your brain or inside your head.
  • Bleeding into a joint, causing pain and swelling.
  • A low number of platelets (cells that help blood clot).
  • Allergic reactions, including allergic skin reactions.
  • Liver problems (your doctor might see this in blood tests).
  • Blood tests might show higher levels of bilirubin (a substance from the liver), certain chemicals from your pancreas or liver, or platelet count.
  • Fainting.
  • Feeling generally unwell.
  • A faster heart rate.
  • Dry mouth.
  • Hives (itchy bumps on the skin).
  • Bleeding into a muscle.
  • Blocked bile flow (cholestasis), or liver inflammation (hepatitis, which can include liver damage).
  • Yellowing of your skin and eyes (jaundice).
  • Local swelling.
  • A collection of blood (bruise) in your groin after a heart procedure where a tube was put into an artery in your leg (called a pseudoaneurysm).

Important Warnings

  • Do not take Rivaroxaban ADOH if you are allergic to rivaroxaban or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not take if you have severe bleeding.
  • Do not take if you have a condition that increases your risk of serious bleeding, such as a stomach ulcer, a recent brain injury, or recent brain or eye surgery.
  • Do not take if you are already taking other medicines to thin your blood (like warfarin, dabigatran, apixaban, or heparin), unless your doctor has specifically told you to switch treatments.
  • Do not take if you have a liver disease that increases your risk of bleeding.
