Risperidon Krka is a medicine used to treat certain mental illnesses like schizophrenia and mania, as well as aggression caused by dementia or behavioral problems.
The usual starting dose for adults with schizophrenia or mania is 2 mg per day. Your dose may be adjusted by your doctor. For elderly patients, or those with kidney or liver disease, the starting dose is usually half of the normal dose.
Take the orodispersible tablet immediately from the package and place it on your tongue; the tablet dissolves in your mouth within seconds and can be swallowed with or without water, or dissolved in water and drunk immediately. Do not push the tablet through the blister foil.
For most patients with schizophrenia, an effective dose is 4-6 mg per day, and for mania, 1-6 mg per day. Your doctor will decide the safe maximum dose for you.
Avoid use in older adults. For treatment of psychosis only. Use only in special cases and for a limited time in the management of severe behavioural symptoms of cognitive impairment. Reduce the dose already in mild renal impairment. Increases the risk of cardiovascular events, QT prolongation and orthostatic hypotension. Increases risk for falls and extrapyramidal symptoms.
