How to Use

Dosage

The usual starting dose for adults is often 2 mg per day. Your doctor will determine the correct dose for you.

Method

Swallow the tablets with water. You can split the tablet to make it easier to swallow.

Important

The maximum daily dose is usually 6 mg, but your doctor will determine the exact maximum dose for you.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep
  • Slow movements, stiffness, or tremors
  • Feeling tired or less alert
  • Headache
  • Weight gain, increased or decreased appetite
  • Dizziness
  • Tremor
  • Blurred vision, eye infection or red eyes
  • Fast heart rate, high blood pressure
  • Stomach pain, vomiting, nausea, constipation, diarrhea, dry mouth
  • Rash, skin redness
  • Muscle cramps, muscle or bone pain, back or joint pain
  • Fever, chest pain, weakness, fatigue, pain
  • Falls
RARE
  • Stroke symptoms, such as weakness in face, arms, or legs, or trouble speaking
  • Blood clot, with symptoms like swelling, pain, and redness in the leg, or chest pain and shortness of breath
  • Fever, muscle stiffness, sweating, and reduced consciousness (Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome)
  • Prolonged and painful erection
  • Severe allergic reaction, such as swelling of face or throat, difficulty breathing, rash, and fever
  • Uncontrolled twitching movements in the face, tongue, or other body parts
  • Dizziness or weakness when standing up quickly
  • Lack of intestinal movement or blockage
  • Severe rash with blisters and skin peeling (Stevens-Johnson syndrome)

Important Warnings

  • Do not use this medicine if you are allergic to risperidone or any of its ingredients.
  • Tell your doctor if you or anyone in your family has had blood clots.
  • If you have dementia and are elderly, you may have a higher risk of stroke. Talk to your doctor.
  • Avoid alcohol while taking this medicine.
  • Do not drive or operate machinery until you know how this medicine affects you. It may cause dizziness or tiredness.
