Rismyl is an antipsychotic medicine used to treat schizophrenia, mania, and aggression in adults with Alzheimer's-related dementia and in children and adolescents with behavioral problems.

How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will prescribe your dose, usually 1-6 mg per day for adults.

Method

Swallow the tablets with water. You can take Rismyl with or without food. Tablets can be divided into two equal halves.

Important

The maximum daily dose for adults is generally 6 mg.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Tremors, stiff muscles, slow movements, drooling, shuffling walk, mask-like face.
  • Headache, difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep.
  • Drowsiness, feeling very tired or weak.
  • Dizziness.
  • Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, stomach pain.
  • Weight gain.
  • Swelling in hands or feet.
  • Fast heartbeat, high blood pressure.
RARE
  • Sudden weakness or numbness on one side of the face, arms, or legs; sudden vision problems or slurred speech, which could be signs of a stroke.
  • Severe allergic reaction with rash, itching, swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat, and trouble breathing.
  • Blood clot in the legs (swelling, pain, redness) or lungs (chest pain, trouble breathing).
  • High fever, stiff muscles, sweating, or decreased consciousness (Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome).
  • Prolonged and painful erection (priapism).
  • Severe stomach pain that reaches your back (pancreatitis).
  • Loss of appetite, unexplained weight loss, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, breathing difficulties, slow heart rate, unusual muscle pain, weakness, or tiredness (diabetic ketoacidosis).

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to risperidone or any other ingredients in Rismyl.
  • Avoid alcohol while taking Rismyl.
  • Elderly patients with dementia have a higher risk of stroke; Rismyl should not be used if your dementia is caused by a stroke.
  • This medicine may cause dizziness, tiredness, or vision problems, so do not drive or use machines until you know how it affects you.
  • Rismyl should not be used for children under 5 years old for behavioral problems.
