How to Use

Dosage

One tablet once a week.

Method

Swallow the tablet whole in the morning at least 30 minutes before eating, drinking, or taking other medicines, while sitting or standing, with at least one glass (120 ml) of plain water. Do not lie down for 30 minutes after taking the tablet.

Important

Do not take two tablets on the same day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Indigestion, nausea, stomach pain, stomach cramps, stomach discomfort, constipation, feeling full in the stomach, bloating, diarrhea.
  • Bone, muscle, or joint pain.
  • Headache.
RARE
  • Esophagus inflammation or ulcers, which can cause difficulty and pain when swallowing.
  • Stomach inflammation (gastritis) and inflammation of the duodenum (the first part of the small intestine).
  • Iris inflammation, causing redness, pain, and vision problems.
  • Tongue inflammation, which may include swelling and pain.
  • Narrowing of the esophagus.
  • Changes in liver function test results.
  • Decreased calcium and phosphate levels in the blood (usually mild, occurring at the start of treatment and not causing symptoms).
  • Unusual thigh bone fractures may rarely occur, especially in patients on long-term osteoporosis treatment. Contact your doctor if you feel pain, weakness, or discomfort in your thigh, hip, or groin, as these could be early signs of a possible thigh bone fracture.
  • Ear pain, ear infection, and/or discharge from the ear. These can be symptoms of bone damage in the ear.

Important Warnings

  • Stop taking immediately and get medical help if you have swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat, trouble swallowing or breathing, or hives (signs of a severe allergic reaction).
  • Stop taking immediately and get medical help if you have severe skin reactions like blistering rashes on your skin, mouth, eyes, or genitals, red spots, or peeling skin.
  • Tell your doctor right away if you feel pain when swallowing, have trouble swallowing, chest pain, or new or worse heartburn.
  • Tell your doctor right away if you have jaw pain, swelling, numbness, a heavy feeling in your jaw, or loose teeth, especially after a tooth extraction.
  • Tell your doctor right away if you have eye pain, redness, or are sensitive to light (signs of eye inflammation).

  • Do not use this medicine if you are pregnant, planning to get pregnant, or breastfeeding.
  • Do not use this medicine if you have severe kidney problems.
  • Do not use this medicine if you have abnormally low calcium levels in your blood.
  • You must stay sitting or standing upright for at least 30 minutes after taking the tablet; do not lie down.
  • Take this medicine only with plain water; avoid food, milk, coffee, or other drinks, which can stop it from working.
  • Avoid taking calcium, magnesium, aluminum (in antacids), or iron supplements for at least 30 minutes after Risedronat Sandoz, as they can reduce its effectiveness.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Do not use in severe renal impairment. The medicine must be taken with sufficient liquid and the patient should then remain in an upright position for 30 minutes. Iron, magnesium, aluminium and calcium decrease absorption.
