How to Use

Dosage

For adults and adolescents, the dose is typically 500 ml to 3 liters per day; for infants and children, the dose is 20 to 100 ml per kg of body weight per day.

Method

This medicine is given as a drip directly into a vein.

Important

The maximum daily dose for adults and adolescents is 3 liters, and for children, it is up to 100 ml per kg of body weight per day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Fever
  • Infection at the injection site
  • Local pain or reaction at the injection site
  • Vein irritation
  • Blood clot in the vein or inflammation in the vein starting at the injection site
RARE
  • Rash or allergic reaction
  • Intestinal paralysis (slowed or stopped bowel function)

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if your body has too much blood fluid (increased blood volume).
  • Do not use if you have severe heart disease with shortness of breath and swollen feet.
  • Do not use if you have severe kidney disease and difficulty urinating or cannot urinate.
  • Do not use if you have tissue swelling due to fluid buildup in your body.
  • Do not use if your blood potassium or calcium levels are too high.

  • Tell your doctor if you need to limit your salt intake, for example, due to mild or moderate heart failure, tissue swelling, or fluid buildup in the lungs.

  • Tell your doctor if you have mild to moderate high blood pressure.
  • Tell your doctor if you have acute fluid loss, for example, after severe burns or adrenal gland issues.

  • Tell your doctor if you develop eclampsia (a complication during pregnancy).
  • Tell your doctor if you have mild to moderate kidney problems.
  • Tell your doctor if you have breathing difficulties.
  • Tell your doctor if you have a condition or take medicines that can lead to reduced sodium excretion from the body.
