How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor or nurse will decide the right dose for you, based on your age, weight, condition, and treatment purpose.

Method

This medicine is given as an infusion into a vein, usually in your arm, using a needle and a plastic tube.

Important

The doctor will determine the appropriate maximum amount based on your condition and needs.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Heart failure, especially in patients with existing heart conditions.
  • Fluid build-up in the lungs (pulmonary edema).
  • Fever, infection (redness, swelling), local pain, blood clot, inflammation or irritation at the injection site.
  • Leakage of infusion fluid into surrounding tissue (extravasation).
RARE
  • Chest tightness or chest pain.
  • Slow heart rate (bradycardia) or fast heart rate (tachycardia).
  • Seizures (convulsions) during infusion administration.
  • Hypersensitivity reactions (allergic reactions).
  • Local or widespread hives (urticaria) with rash and itching.
  • Too much fluid in blood vessels (overhydration).
  • Changes in blood salt and/or acid-base balance.
  • Low sodium levels in the blood (hyponatremia).
  • Brain swelling, which can cause brain damage.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to any of the ingredients in this medicine.
  • Do not give to premature babies and newborns (under 28 days old) simultaneously with ceftriaxone antibiotic.
  • Do not use if you have too much fluid around your body cells (extracellular hyperhydration).
  • Do not use if you have an unusually large blood volume (hypervolemia).
  • Tell your doctor if you have heart failure, especially if treated with digitalis.

  • Tell your doctor if you have breathing problems (lung disease).
  • Tell your doctor if you have swelling due to fluid retention (edema).
  • Tell your doctor if you have kidney problems (kidney failure).
  • Tell your doctor if you have high blood pressure (hypertension).
  • Inform your doctor if you have high potassium levels in your blood (hyperkalemia) due to conditions like kidney failure, adrenal insufficiency, severe dehydration, or severe tissue damage.
  • Tell your doctor if you have a condition causing abnormally high vitamin D levels, such as sarcoidosis.
  • Tell your doctor if you have myasthenia gravis (a condition causing progressive muscle weakness).
  • Tell your doctor if you have problems with fluid levels in your brain (e.g., meningitis, brain bleeding, or brain injury).
  • Inform your doctor if you have conditions causing high levels of vasopressin, a hormone that regulates body fluids, as this increases the risk of low sodium levels in the blood, potentially causing headaches, nausea, seizures, lethargy, coma, and brain swelling.
