How to Use

Dosage

Adults typically take 600 mg once daily. For children over 3 months, the dose depends on weight, usually 10-20 mg/kg once daily or 15 mg/kg three times a week.

Method

Take the tablet with a glass of water on an empty stomach, at least 2 hours after a meal and 1 hour before the next meal. Take it regularly at the same time each day as directed by your doctor.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 600 mg.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Worsening or return of tuberculosis symptoms (like cough, fever, tiredness, shortness of breath, headache, loss of appetite, weight loss, or weakness).
  • Nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, diarrhea, loss of appetite, bloating, and skin rashes.
RARE
  • Yellow skin (jaundice) or liver inflammation/damage.
  • Allergic reactions (including fever and muscle pain).
  • Trouble concentrating, hallucinations, headache, dizziness, or clumsy movements.
  • Itching, hives, or menstrual problems.
  • Changes in blood (like tiredness from red blood cell breakdown, easy bleeding or bruising, purple spots).
  • Bleeding in the brain (symptoms like headache, nausea, paralysis).
  • Blood clots in veins, or inflammation of the gut or kidneys.
  • Muscle weakness or muscle disease.
  • Psychosis or adrenal gland problems.
  • Permanent tooth discoloration.
  • Swelling.

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to rifampicin or similar medicines (rifamycins).
  • Do not take if you have jaundice (yellow skin or eyes) or severe liver damage.
  • Do not use with medicines containing saquinavir or ritonavir (used for HIV).
  • Stop taking this medicine and contact your doctor immediately if you get severe allergic reactions (like trouble breathing, swelling), serious skin rashes (like blisters or peeling skin), or signs of liver or kidney problems (like yellow skin, swelling, feeling very tired).
  • This medicine can turn your saliva, tears, teeth, urine, and sweat orange-red. It can also permanently stain soft contact lenses.
