How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will decide your dose based on how severe your condition is and where and how much you are bleeding. The usual starting dose is 70 mg per kg of body weight.

Method

The medicine is given slowly into a vein as an injection or infusion.

Possible Side Effects

  • Sudden allergic reaction, which may include skin redness, rash, low blood pressure, or difficulty breathing

Important Warnings

  • Do not use Riastap if you are allergic to fibrinogen or any other ingredient in the medicine. Tell your doctor about any allergies you have.
  • If you have a severe allergic reaction (like trouble breathing or dizziness) during treatment, the medicine must be stopped right away.
  • Tell your doctor if you have an increased risk of blood clots, for example, if you receive large or repeated doses, have had a heart attack, liver disease, or have recently had or will soon have surgery.
  • There is a small risk of virus transmission because the medicine is made from human blood. Your doctor might recommend hepatitis vaccinations.
  • Riastap contains sodium, which is important to consider if you are on a low-salt diet.
