How to Use

Dosage

The starting dose is 2 mg once a day for the first week. Your doctor may increase the dose gradually.

Method

Take Requip Depot once a day, at the same time each day. Swallow the tablet whole with water. Do not break, chew, or crush it.

Important

The maximum daily dose can be up to 24 mg, as directed by your doctor.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Fainting
  • Drowsiness
  • Nausea
RARE
  • Suddenly falling asleep without feeling sleepy first
  • Hallucinations (seeing things that are not there)
  • Vomiting
  • Dizziness (spinning sensation)
  • Heartburn
  • Stomach pain
  • Constipation
  • Swelling of legs, feet, or hands
  • Dizziness or feeling faint, especially when standing up quickly (due to low blood pressure)
  • Low blood pressure
  • Extreme tiredness during the day
  • Mental side effects, such as severe confusion, delusions, or paranoia
  • Hiccups
  • Allergic reactions like skin rashes, swelling of face/lips/tongue/throat, and intense itching
  • Changes in liver function, shown in blood tests
  • Aggressive behavior
  • Excessive use of the medicine (desire to take higher doses than needed to control motor symptoms)
  • Impulse control problems like gambling, overeating, shopping, or increased sexual urges
  • Periods of hyperactivity, elevated mood, or irritability
  • Withdrawal symptoms after stopping or reducing treatment, such as depression, apathy, anxiety, tiredness, sweating, or pain
  • Spontaneous penile erection
  • Uncontrolled movements (dyskinesia), which are very common if you also take levodopa
  • Confusion, which is common if you also take levodopa

Important Warnings

  • Do not take Requip Depot if you are allergic to ropinirole or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not take if you have severe kidney or liver disease.
  • Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding. Your doctor will advise you.
  • This medicine is not for people under 18 years old.
  • Tell your doctor if you have severe heart problems or serious mental health issues.

  • Tell your doctor if you have new or stronger urges to gamble, overeat, shop a lot, or have increased sexual urges, as these are signs of impulse control problems.
  • This medicine can make you feel sleepy, fall asleep suddenly, or see/hear things that are not real (hallucinations). Do not drive or use machines if this happens.
  • If you cannot tolerate certain sugars, like lactose, tell your doctor.
  • The 4 mg tablets contain a coloring called para-orange FCF (E110), which can cause allergic reactions.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C
