How to Use

Dosage

Take 2.5–20 mg once or twice daily, depending on your condition. Your doctor will determine the exact dose.

Method

Take the tablets with water, with or without food. You can split the tablet if you have trouble swallowing it whole.

Important

Not more than 40 mg daily.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Feeling dizzy, weak, or unwell
  • Cough
  • Headache
  • Diarrhea
  • Tiredness
  • Skin rash
RARE
  • Sudden drop in blood pressure, fast or irregular heartbeat
  • Heart attack or stroke
  • Swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat with trouble breathing or swallowing
  • Kidney problems or kidney failure
  • Liver problems, such as yellow skin or eyes (jaundice)
  • Severe skin reactions with peeling or blisters

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to enalapril or other ACE inhibitors, or if you have had severe swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat (angioedema).
  • Do not use if you have diabetes or kidney problems and are taking a blood pressure medicine that contains aliskiren.
  • Do not use during the last six months of pregnancy (beyond 3 months); also avoid in early pregnancy.
  • Do not use if you are taking sacubitril/valsartan (for heart failure), as it increases the risk of severe swelling.
  • If you experience swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat, trouble breathing or swallowing, or swelling of your hands, feet, or ankles, or hives, stop taking the medicine immediately and contact a doctor.
