Method

This medicine is given as a continuous infusion, either under the skin or directly into a vein through a thin tube (catheter).

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Widened blood vessels and skin redness
  • Pain or soreness around the infusion site
  • Skin color changes or bruising around the infusion site
  • Headaches
  • Rash
  • Nausea
  • Diarrhea
  • Jaw pain
  • Dizziness
  • Vomiting
  • Feeling dizzy or fainting due to low blood pressure
  • Itchy or red skin
  • Swelling in feet, ankles, or legs (fluid retention)
  • Bleeding, such as nosebleeds, coughing up blood, blood in urine, bleeding gums, or blood in stool
  • Joint pain
  • Muscle pain
  • Pain in arms and/or legs
RARE
  • Infusion site infection
  • Abscess at the infusion site
  • Low platelet count (thrombocytopenia)
  • Bleeding at the infusion site
  • Bone pain
  • Rash with skin discoloration or hives
  • Infection under the skin (cellulitis)
  • Shortness of breath, tiredness, and swelling in legs and belly due to too much fluid in the body and a persistent cough (caused by too much blood pumped from the heart)
  • Vein inflammation (thrombophlebitis)
  • Bacterial infection in the bloodstream (bacteremia)
  • Severe bacterial infection in the blood (sepsis)

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to treprostinil or any other ingredients.
  • Do not use if you have a serious lung condition called veno-occlusive disease.
  • Do not use if you have severe liver disease.
  • Do not use if you have certain heart problems, such as a heart attack in the last 6 months, severe irregular heartbeats, severe coronary artery disease, or an untreated heart condition.
  • Do not use if you have a high risk of bleeding, for example, from an active stomach ulcer or an injury.

  • Do not use if you have had a stroke or other brain blood flow problem in the last 3 months.
  • Tell your doctor if your blood pressure drops too low.
  • Contact your doctor immediately if you have worsening breathing problems or a persistent cough, as this could be a sign of too much fluid in the lungs.
  • Tell your doctor if you have severe bleeding, as this medicine can increase the risk of bleeding.
  • If you are receiving Remodulin intravenously and get a fever or notice redness, swelling, or pain at the infusion site, contact your doctor as these could be signs of an infection.
